Hey, #BostonMA folks, especially anybody in the greater Camberville area:
Smoked turkey legs: where to buy?
For years I've seen references in American cooking videos and recipes to smoked turkey legs as something one can buy in grocery stores. I've been looking for these for something like 20 years now? I've never seen them at Star or Stop & Shop, which are my main haunts.
Is there someplace around here that regularly carries them?
Extra credit: same question, but smoked ham hocks.
Because of changing life circumstances (my partner going into assisted living, me moving to a new apartment) we're needing to re-home our 2 dogs.
This is really, really hard. Luckily one of them is going back to my GF's ex-husband (which is an excellent thing) but I need to find a new home for Bella.
Had a fabulous #FieldTrip today with Long Now Boston folks. We toured the #DeerIsland wastewater treatment plant. Yes, Long Now Boston is a nerd club.
But it gives me hope: some really smart, thoughtful, and capable people are keeping our infrastructure going and planning for #ClimateChange--no matter what the other noise around is.
Great tour, take one if you get the chance. #BostonMA
Of course, the highlight of the tour was seeing the actual egg digesters up close. You can't take photos inside, but we were right underneath one of them.
These use bacteria from human waste to chew up stuff that remains in the water at this point. On average, a piece of stuff that comes in spends 20 days in this breaking down.
If you fly into #BostonMA you see this dozen eggs and always wonder what they are about.... Now I know.
Any #herpetologist folks out there have i.d. ideas for this lil brownie? Spotted in Boston, very confrontational, lurching out to bite quickly, not very scared, which was surprising. Didn't get a good look at its belly but didn't look red. It's about 90°F here today which is about the hottest it usually gets. Is it a baby?
Sorry my google camera tries to A.I. sharpen everything, idk how to turn that off

Thanks to everyone who came out last weekend to my talk at the MIT Museum's Cambridge Science Festival! We had a packed house and a lot of discussion afterwards, so I'm really honored that folks found these to be helpful resources 🥰 Special thanks also to the volunteers who helped us squeeze in some more chairs at the last minute 🪑😅
Now an empty storefront displaying adds for things, in the 70s, it was home to the radical New England Free Press.
NEFP was a collectively-run press that printed and sold radical and feminist publications-- including the first edition of "Our bodies, ourselves." They shared decision-making, job tasks, and profits-- and kept their prices low so their publications would go as far as possible.
Dear #lazyWeb : does anyone know of a website/app like https://www.commutometer.com that would provide bike travel times? (commutometer is public-transit focused, which is great, but I'd like to also use bike as an option)
(yes, I can check point-to-point bike times with google maps, but a isochrone map would be handy for overview)
The potential Massachusetts ballot measure — which supporters are eyeing for 2024 or 2026 — would create “access” to natural psychedelics and remove criminal penalties for personal possession across the state.
First, hope you’re staying warm! Also, if I may be so bold, you look downright marvelous today.
SECOND, a reminder! If you work in tech AND you’re curious about unions, we’ve got a meetup on ✨Monday✨ (18 Dec) at 7pm ET. We’d love it if you joined us!
#FensterFreitag windows I spotted in #BostonMA earlier this week. I loved the grid patterns and could only think they would make lovely #NeedleLace patterns...
More of the fire performers, this time jump roping with a fire whip. Special thanks to Hunt’s Photo Video, Sony (even though I don’t use a Sony Camera), and Cirque Delight for doing this. #BostonMA#NightPhotography#FireJuggling#UniversalHub
