Back to #KDE#Plasma.
The occasional bugs "bugged" me, so I went to #xfce, but I found its limited keyboard controls... limiting.
I tried #Gnome for about five minutes and ran screaming for the hills. :D
I just love #Debian with #Xfce :debian:
It's simple, stable and get's out of my way
It might not be the most eye candy desktop - but I need it to just work.
Heya, folks! We want to start the new year off right, and what better way to do that than a new Solus release? That's right, Solus 4.5 Resilience is now available to everyone! A ton of work has gone into this release, including a new installer with #Calamares, and a new #XFCE Edition!
"Additionally, it’s unclear at the moment if Xfce will transition to GTK4 or not. GTK4 has been around for two years now and GTK5 is on the road, so the team needs to act quickly if they plan to transition, or they will have to skip a GTK version."

Omg #KDE is soooo good. If their design philosophy was a bit more #GNOME or Apple like, I would literally switch. But I love my Berlin Gnomies, so running both it is.
Btw, I started to rework the Gnome pattern on openSUSE Tumbleweed in my free time and really reference #Aeon :D
My main problem with KDE is QT, because it’s so Cpp heavy and hard to integrate with other languages, unlike GTK. Maybe #XFCE could be interesting for me, now that they have a Wayland story and I learned about XApps 😼
I didn't realize just how much I missed #KDE#Plasma.
No hatin' on #XFCE, but man, this is such smooth, clean, elegant desktop.
It adapts to my crazy brain almost as well (possibly better *) than #i3wm.
*The only thing I don't like about i3 is that floating windows always float above tiled windows. It would be nice if they could be brought above and below freely, but they're on a layer that's permanently above anything tiled. Minor niggle, though.
it offers the right level of abstraction & functionality I expect
it's more or less stable so I don't have to get used to different things every couple of months/years
With my latest #NixOS adventure & the Wayland situation, I'm thinking of switching over to #KDE because it has Wayland support and https://github.com/pjones/plasma-manager might actually offer the possibility to fully(?) configure KDE from #HomeManager.
Part of me wants to install EndeavourOS again but I never use #linux for anything other than surfing the net and take screenshots to show off my good looking Linux desktop.
...And as I have stated many times I will always dual boot because my only real hobby is gamimg and the 10% of games I play the most are also the games that don't work on Linux.
While I am contemplating dual booting with #Linux again here are some of my old desktops. Because as we all know showing your desktop screenshots of Linux is mandatory on all social networks.
#Xfce never let me down. The stability and usability really is from another world.
You can throw any workflow at it and it will not stutter, hang or crash.
Just the right thing for any Sysadmin doing work. 🙂
Combine this with #Debian or any #BSD and you got a match made in heaven 😎
A very nice launcher (and much more) is rofi.
I use it with #Xfce to quickly run a application. It is easy to use and the defaults are sane.
Bin it to a keyboard shortcut of your liking and it will be your best buddy soon 😎
