e33io,

@tripplehelix nice find!

e33io, to random

there was a time before social media.. ..there will be a time after social media.. ..what will that time look like?

i vote for blogs and RSS

e33io, to xfce

really feelin' the Chicago95 theme for Xfce

e33io,

@tripplehelix i think there is a lightdm theme in the repo now, but i haven’t tested that

e33io,

@tripplehelix ahhh, good catch, i overlooked that

FYI openSUSE Tumbleweed users, the downgrade to the xz library to roll it back to 5.4.6 is already in place (you can check by seeing the update target version) so update now (to do the downgrade) if you haven't already.

e33io,

@chillicampari thx for the screenshots

File this under "Why didn't I do this years ago??":

function msleep {
if echo "$1" | grep -qE "^[0-9]+$"; then
sleep $(($1*60));
else
sleep;
fi
}

cc: @amin

I'll probably do an hsleep, too.

that GNU sleep takes [hms] suffixes. The function is stil good for though. 's sleep mimics the same behavior, which is nice.

e33io,

@RL_Dane @amin i'm a noob, what's this do?

e33io,

@RL_Dane @amin what's a practical use for this?

e33io,

@RL_Dane @amin i understand use-cases for the sleep command, i was just curious about your script use-cases

going down the rabbit hole of syntax highlighting.. ..i made a Mousepad text editor generic-config.lang syntax plugin for highlighting files not supported by other syntax plugins, like i3/conf, i3status.conf, dunstrc, and other conf/config-type files.. ..i also made an xresources.lang syntax plugin for highlighting Xresources/Xdefaults files

Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble Numbat) Daily Build https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ if you are interested

e33io,

@milosz the builds have been really solid, this will be a great release

e33io,

@edfloreshz does the cosmic editor support multi-cursors ?

e33io, to debian

to Debian ..simply because it's awesome

e33io, to GNOME

i've been in a revisit-DEs-mode lately.. ..so i updated my Debian post-install Gnome script and associated config files.. ..i set the Terminal titlebar to the smaller standard titlebar and i updated all the included Gnome extensions.. ..it's neat that it only uses 682MB of memory on cold boot

https://git.sr.ht/~e33io/scripts/tree/main/item/deb-post-install-gnome.sh

the best part about AI is now i can second-guess everything online and not be considered a conspiracy theorist

e33io, to ubuntu

Ubuntu 24.04 daily builds are really solid.. ..i've been messing around with my Ubuntu Server post-install i3wm script a bit, removing more server specific packages and disabling more server specific services that are unneeded for desktop use.. ..this is fun to test and optimize, but i would still just use vanilla Debian

https://git.sr.ht/~e33io/scripts/tree/main/item/temp/ubuntu-srvr-post-install-i3.sh

@protonmail when will the Proton Mail iOS app be able to be the default account for contacts within iOS settings?

e33io,

.@protonmail i didn’t realize this was a bot account

e33io,

@protonmail it just seemed like a bot response.. ..no?

e33io, to GNOME

Gnome on Debian 12 is really optimized.. ..only 688 MB of memory on cold boot is pretty awesome (and surprising)

e33io,

@array i3wm is still my default, but i like to test the waters with DEs.. ..gnome is really clean, but i think i still like xfce better as far as DEs go

e33io, to debian

i know you can set the JWM window FocusModel to sloppy for "Mouse over to focus. Click to raise." behavior, but how do you set it to also auto-raise the focused window? ("Mouse over to focus AND raise.") ..i feel like i'm just missing a config setting somewhere, but i haven't found anything specifically about changing this behavior..

..maybe this can be done with wmctrl or something like that if it's not built into JWM?
