if you install #Debian with #XFCE, you get the xfce4-goodies package, which means you get xfburn. LOL, CD burning. I don't even have an optical drive in this machine.

I think maybe #Debian 12 with #XFCE is literally perfect for me. And that's without doing anything in terminals, only clicking around in GUI settings. I didn't even have to install any additional packages.

@cheeaun There's something with the current #xfce hashtag feed that crashes phanpy dev.

Spent the day installing to an old Acer of my sister in law's brother (I've converted everyone to in the family). Acer's firmware was very buggy, so it took tricks to load grub.

Installed them a few apps, and they will be super happy with their new (old) laptop. Previously, 10 was dying on that laptop, it was that slow, as it was swapping furiously! Mint loaded in about 1 minute, which is good (considering the very slow hdd).

Little upgrade on the SFF as a desktop:

Amazing experience! 😎
The system uses roughly around 20 - 30 Watts under normal desktop usage - peaking at 60 when the load is high.
Not going back to the anytime soon... just don't need the power.
Besides: It is quiet and cool - like that a lot.

Running with on it and also have two vm's that I run most of the time.
Also: There is a spare NVMe in there... room for more fun 😎

On 11, the whole system along with was taking 500 MB of RAM. On Debian 12, the system takes 850 MB of RAM. On Trixie/Sid-unstable, it takes 1.3 GB. I honestly don't know what they're shoving in it.

With and , it takes 1.6 GB on idle. Since when Cinnamon, a gnome2/gtk3 fork takes (or should take) as much RAM as Gnome4/gtk4? Something's amiss.

Cleaned up my #Xfce menu, surprised I hadn't added the settings apps to the settings manager since I last wiped. Also, will be forever confused as to why applications in 'settings' don't automatically get added to the settings manager. Found a few old packages I could remove, including most of #libreoffice as I only use Calc and Writer.

Quite enjoying Ubuntu Budgie. Seems to be a little lighter than stock Ubuntu and with fewer issues? I don't know. I did a full install instead of upgrading in place. Luckily the laptop doesn't hold a lot of files.

I've spent time in tiling window managers ( and later ), , , , , , and .

I have settled in nicely to Plasma for my work machine. The project has matured a LOT in the last couple of years, and I can't help but shake my imaginary rhetorical pom-poms at their success.

On my home machine, it's almost always tiling window managers. I just love the clean, pseudo sci-fi look and incredible efficiency.

So I found myself in a weird predicament. I had some older laptops that I converted to & with a bunch of added apps and games. I gave some to my family, and the rest I wanted to give them to kids for school. I asked around. Well, no one seems to want them. No one is using computers anymore in it seems, they only use . They barely browse the web too (just some gov sites). They just use and few apps, consoles for games. That's it.
