Howdy yโ€™all! Josh here. Iโ€™m a special educator by trade and hobbiest tech-tinker. I enjoy toying around with #SBC, #MiniPC, and trying out various #OS on bare metal. Oh, and I like building #MechanicalKeyboards and collecting #MacroPads.

Here is my little hint of the madness in my mindโ€ฆ

JLW_the_Jobber,
@JLW_the_Jobber@fosstodon.org avatar

@Wyatt wait till you see the final product. Took me awhile to sort out all the keycaps.

Currently taking a break, then I will flash the board and post some pics and the layout.

@JLW_the_Jobber@fosstodon.org avatar

Which one do y'all think is a better gaming-ish lay out?

"Current Set up" or "Other Idea?"

Current has a more traditional left side keyboard layout.

Other idea has more distinct sections: Media, Numpad, and left hand gaming section.

@Wyatt I get a bit too overwhelmed with a lot of buttons when it comes to gaming.

In all actuality a standard keyboard will still be attached in case it is needed, like for putting in commands in Minecraft or chat

Bought me a Zima Board. Dunno what I'll do with it yet, but I will find something.

@thelinuxcast thats the way to do it! Hardware first, then figure it out.

Thats pretty much every sbc purchase for me ๐Ÿ˜…

It looks like I might be a bit of a fan boy. Looking at my devices that run a DE, all of them are GTK based (, , and ).

I think the lack of a good screenshot utility is what's going to get me to leave behind. The default one is not great, and none of the others that work on Wayland work for me on Gnome. Get the same errors with grim/slurp and flameshot.

JLW_the_Jobber,
@JLW_the_Jobber@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast thatโ€™s weird, I have had no issues with Gnome Screenshot. Im running mine on Nobara; could it be a Suse issue?

Hey @geerlingguy catching up on last nightโ€™s live stream with @CraftComputing and I have an idea for potential sponsors: hot dogs!

You and your dad can test out different hot dogs to see what produces the best sound, loudest, most bass, etc.

You could be rolling in that hot dog money. Then branch out to hot dog buns, condiments, etc.

Okay, my Gnome people, best gtk based terminal emulator? Must have good theming and customization support.

JLW_the_Jobber,
@JLW_the_Jobber@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast I have really been liking BlackBox, but it might be too limited in theming for you; it comes with preset themes. I think you can customize it too. I will check in a bit. Either way it is a very slick looking terminal.

The thing I learned just now is that if you're going to do Plex. Do it on Ubuntu.

The amount of pain and suffering I went through doing it on openSUSE was enormous. On Ubuntu it just worked. Now whether that's because the permissions are already correct or Ubuntu is just better supported, IDK

JLW_the_Jobber,
@JLW_the_Jobber@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast maybe itโ€™s due to Ubuntu being the default Linux ๐Ÿคท

I effing love #Linux.

I erased openSUSE on my original homelab pc. Fully expecting to lose the software raid0 that I had set up. Installed proxmox on that pc, and then moved the raid to another pc and installed proxmox again. Raid is still right there, properly together.

How do you folks listen to music on your computers?

I have recently gone down the rabbit hole of setting up my library. I am trying to listen to things locally over streaming. Boost if you could.

JLW_the_Jobber,
@JLW_the_Jobber@fosstodon.org avatar

@stfn @Wyatt I feel like โ€œitโ€™s fineโ€ defines most music players. I have used Clementine and Strawberry in the past. Lately I have been using Rhythmbox as it came preinstalled with Nobara.
