Hello people who take international trains in Europe:
I am trying to book a train from the Netherlands to Copenhagen for the last week in July; have been trying for a few weeks, and it seems that the DSB (Danish) still don't have tickets available for the summer past July 23. Any one else run into this, or have any thoughts on when tickets might be available? #Rail#InternationalTrain#Denmark#TrainTravel#Trains
New at my Patreon... You'd think there'd be many direct trains between Lisbon and Madrid - but in fact there are zero. This is how I made that journey by rail, via four regional trains:
I know so many neurodivergent people who have #trains as a special interest.
And just yesterday I heard on radio that Antonín Dvorák went to the train station every day to take notes about all the trains. And since it was the beginning of the train area there were not too many train drivers. But he was acquainted with all of them!
So you've never been alone or 'weird'. Some of the brightest people loved trains since their first days 💕
For € 49, "The “#Deutschlandticket” offers unlimited access to #Germany’s #bus and metro systems, as well as local and regional #trains – with only long-distance high-speed services not included.
Interest in the pass was understandably great, with 52 million people signing up for the offer. But operators struggled to manage the stampede."
@jon wow. just learned about this, while i bought three local day-tickets when i arrived in #berlin yesterday… :-S
and i’ll have to travel between here, #frankfurt, and #stuttgart (and #zurich) these couple of weeks, i don’t know if this still makes sense, knowing my choices would probably be on slower and/or indirect #train#trains.
This would be done on this account, sadly Träwelling, the train/tram/bus trip recording client I use ( #traewelling@traewelling ) doesn’t yet support anything but Mastodon to auto-post to. Once #MastodonDE is done and ready, my trips will be Auto-posted on my main account there (or I’ll make a separate train account, not sure yet).
2023.06.29 Update
I’ve decided to put travels that happened mostly within an city with city transportation (bus, metro, tram, etc.) as part of the same trip into one post! If such a thing is documented, then my description of what happened on that trip will occur in that post, not the post about the way back as was the case previously.
Going to the JA!NUN festival close to Hannover with my friend @ilohi_uwu! It is a festival organized by climate activists and associated with the BUNDjugend.
I had to rush packing my things as the Deutsche Bahn canceled the train I wanted to take, so I needed to take one an hour earlier.
The JA!NUN festival actually just starts tomorrow, we are going to sleep in the state party bureau of The Left (Die Linke) in Hannover for one night so that we do not have to hurry tomorrow.
Back from the JA!NUN Festival with @ilohi_uwu! We transported the whole collected works of Vladimir Lenin there and back due to unforseen circumstances (a friend of Nils broke up with his gf and we needed to pick up the stuff he left at her house).
I learned how to make plant coal like the Aztecs did! I learned about forest gardens (Waldgärten) and ate the best vegan food out there! I also made my own T-Shirts with serigraphy :]
Now coming back home to Norden after an elongated weekend! The JA!NUN festival for which I travelled through Hannover in the first place was great, but staying in Hannover for my comrades from the Linksjugend (Left Youth) and attending the 8th May remembrance event, as well as coming back to the legendary youth house #korn / #UJZ (Unabhängiges Jugendzentrum Korn), was incredible as well!
To all you rail travel fans... I'm off to Portugal tomorrow for a six-week Eurail journey, from there onward to Spain, France, Italy, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia.
I'll be catching trains all the way, and sharing the highlights of the trains and cities via three exclusive posts each week for the patrons of my Patreon.
If you'd like to join the gang and follow my epic rail journey, you'd be very welcome! Patronage starts from $4 per month and you can cancel anytime.
I am seeing all of @danlyke's photos from his trip back from Reno on the California Zephyr, and I am now certain I need to make that journey myself sometime. Yup. #trains
Other countries like #Germany and #China that still burn a lot of coal should take note: changing or adapting the transport vehicles (wagons) might help to reduce #AirPollution significantly.
"It found that passing #trains carrying #coal add on average 8 micrograms per cubic meter of air (ug/m3) to ambient PM2.5 #pollution...Under certain wind conditions, these #concentrations reached 25 ug/m3..."
"...It found that passing #trains carrying #coal add on average 8 micrograms per cubic meter of #air (ug/m3) to ambient PM2.5 #pollution. That is 2 to 3 ug/m3 more than #freight trains contribute. Even empty coal cars add about 2 ug/m3 to the air due to traces of coal dust.
...the first study of coal train particulate pollution in a #US urban area. It’s also the first to use artificial intelligence [#AI] technologies to verify that the source of #air#pollution detected comes..."
Does anyone have good sources on where to find information (either in English, or in a format where I can easily run translation on them) on the works going on in #Warsaw? Specifically, what #train stations are closed when over the summer and recommended alternative routes for those with baggage.
I am helping with a festival this summer that'll see quite many people changing #trains in Warsaw on route to Lublin and it would good to be able to flag this information early.
New Siemens Venture cars on the #Amtrak Wolverine from #Detroit to #Chicago offer a quieter, smoother ride. Love the 2x1 configuration, which gives solo travelers a business-class like experience of having a seat to oneself and your own chargers, with USB charging built-in. Digital signage informs of upcoming station stops. Very nice! #trains#travel#intercity
"SINGAPORE – Temasek-owned SMRT and publicly listed ComfortDelGro Corp are vying to operate metro lines in Stockholm, Sweden.
The Swedish capital is expanding its three-line metro network, with extensions as well as a fourth line being built, and these will come into service from 2025."
This display was built from scratch (at 1:160 scale), with a few kit parts.
This was a surprise reveal that I had found my Dad's trains we thought were missing/stolen.
