Sounds like a good idea. Too many building owners are happy to let them sit empty for ages.

City of Port Phillip to increase rates for empty shops in bid to fill them

@luciedigitalni @timrichards that might interfere with the commercial landlord’s overwhelming imperative to ratchet up rates whenever a tenancy expires in order to make the property look like a better capital asset on the balance sheet

whenever I am forced to look at LinkedIn I can only imagine that I have the contorted, screaming face of someone who is in a fantasy movie and is looking deeper and deeper into The Cursed Orb or whatever and refusing to let go even though it's obviously killing them. with each turn of the scroll wheel I sink a little deeper into the madness, feeling myself overwhelmed by the slick achievements of others, my blood boiling at the midwit business insights of the rest. then just as suddenly it is gone and I can breathe again, and I remember my family loves me, and there is hope for a better world

ThermiteBeGiants,

@burgerdrome I found out this morning that “LinkedIn integration” in Outlook* is turned on by default, which is pretty disgusting stuff

  • I do not use Outlook very much, only under sufferance so this is probably years-old

News of the Sydney “Tekno Train” being run during Vivid reminds me of when in 1976 the Victorian Railways converted a passenger excursion carriage into a “dance car” with a polished floor and a carpeted area for a band to play on, for use on charter trains throughout the state:

I'm thinking, for a change, of not buying a local SIM (or eSIM) for my upcoming trip to Switzerland. It's only ten days, so if I use data sparingly and stick only to wifi on some days, I should be able to use my Australian number on Telstra's $10/day international roaming day pass, and not spend much more than a new SIM. Hmmm worth a try I think.

ThermiteBeGiants,
@ThermiteBeGiants@aus.social avatar

@timrichards I have been looking into this recently for my upcoming trip to the UK, as for security (and laziness) reasons I want to keep my Australian phone number while I’m over there for the month.
Apparently Belong (a Telstra subsidiary) has a $30 for 15 days roaming pack, with unlimited SMS, 3GB data and 150 minutes of international calls, which seems quite competitive compared to $10/day on Telstra.
Vodafone has $5/day roaming and you just get to use your existing Australian plan for calls, SMS & data which might be more competitive if you want more data and don’t want local eSIM hassles to go with that

Ok computer-touches of the fediverse, I’ve had enough of the Windows fucks and will be installing Debian <soon>. Maybe 20 years has been enough for a viable Linux on the desktop, who knows…

So what window manager are the cool kids using these days? Is Enlightenment still a thing? I want to not have fuck with things

@jpm I hear good things about KDE Plasma, personally I use GNOME because I’m Basic and it’s fine.
Everyone seems to hate Wayland & systemd but good luck going back to the old ways on Desktop unless you’re like a Slackware grognard

After almost 500 days, Victorian Goldfields Railway steam locomotive J549 has returned to Maldon! It has been undergoing a heavy overhaul at the VGR workshops in Castlemaine, and finally ventured out onto the VGR's mainline today as part of a series of load trials as part of its return back to service. Well done to all the people involved in getting it going again!
