What obligation do #platformcoops have to operate at the same scale as or even outperform their venture capital funded corporate counterparts? If a #platformcoop does not succeed in having a similar reach as major corporations with comparable features, should it be considered "low quality" or are there other standards of success worth considering?
the trick is people value simplicity. platform coops promise to be that one place for that type of thing that the dominant corporation provides, but without the evil. if they don't achieve ubiquity, the value to us is severely limited.
if I want to download #ccmusic, I look for the musician on Bandcamp. if I want to give a podcaster or writer ongoing support, I hope they use Patreon. I don't want to manage multiple accounts either. my dream is decentralized solutions for both.
The internet means music will be discoverable eventually in ways that wasn't possible with only physical copies available, but it might take decades. I want it to go viral now and to be able to get more popular than that which is pushed by people with money (in order to make more money). I want the public to decide. That's going to take a much larger embrace of #ccmusic licensing so that anybody can share it with everybody else however they see fit. And other decentralizing media technology too.
(not yet included are the singles, remixes and #fedivision entries from '22 and '23. these will eventually find a home on their own respective albums 😊) #music#noai#ccmusic
The importance of #SteveAlbini for me is the idea of integrity in the music industry. He could be cruel and apologized later, but his core value was don't be dishonest to get paid. Be truthful to your muse, not trends. Don't support a system where people promote what they think is inferior art for profit.
Beyond music, our culture becomes what we all share the most. To lie is a choice to lessen the collective potential, esp as decentralization gives us all more say. #ccmusic#AttentionDemocracy
