Unsurprising, but good to have explicitly laid out:

"The overall effect of looking at my Substack dashboard is 'wow, Substack is really getting me an audience! If I leave Substack, half of my subscription channel will dry up.' It’s clear that this is the impression other writers, the media, and investors are getting as well, because they praise Substack about it all the time."

Would love feedback from anyone who's left Substack and has gone the Wordpress + SES or Sendgrid route: https://danielwmorgan.town/posts/breaking-free-from-substack-a-howto-guide-for-medium-technical-people/
While this isn't the most user friendly option, it may fit the bill for people who already like Wordpress and send updates out infrequently.

Le regole erano sempre state chiare? E allora inutile lamentarsene ora

A lot of things these days ‘stack’.

In my part of the world to ‘stack it’ typically means to fall off in some way. ‘Cor that guy just proper stacked it on his unicycle’.

I hope this helps.

I'm tired of people using the term "podcast" when I can't find it at the place where I get my podcasts.

mjgardner,

@darnell @pfefferle @Castopod I’m not surprised when creators flock to services offering easy tools to adopt and monetize. That’s the engine that drove into the arms of and , and it’s what’s driving into .

@davew, you’ve long advocated for easy writing and distribution of text. Unfortunately, creators don’t care about open standards and access until the lock-in hurts them directly.

Suddenly last week I started getting tons of emails from for some reason.

Thanks to the of the Internet apparently when a newsletter I once read moved to substack, Substack auto-creates an account for you and start pumping out newsletters. Without consent.

I had to log in, create a profile (thank Artemis only a name was required) and then move into account settings and delete the account.

'Nazi.'

... The point we need to remember is this: all Nazis are assholes, but not all assholes are Nazis. So is the Substacker who pecks out his midnight screed about “The Jewish Question” between games of League of Legends a Nazi, or is he an asshole? I’m going with asshole."

Out of curiosity, has Patreon ever fixed or recovered from their payment issues?

https://www.theverge.com/2023/8/3/23818598/patreon-payment-blocked-processing-declined-subscription-canceled

and has Substack remain diminished because of their moderation issues?

I am curious if those who bailed from substack, like @Daojoan, have tracked that site's condition after it took a hit and where or what alternatives people who have left as creators or members have gravitated to.

I am begging people to stop blogging with substack (email bookclubs aside).

every time I click a link it bothers me TWICE to sign in. TWO different pop-ups. I am not accessing these illicitly (well maybe thinks so) these are not subscriber only articles. I just want to read the article you are sharing that proves your point.

Get a blog (not wordpress though) with an RSS feed. Or at least use a less obnoxious service. No, medium is NOT less obnoxious.
I beg you.

With its long-form Articles feature (for Premium+ users), is going after not just , but also blogs. This worries me because it might actually work. This level of centralization won't be healthy, because it actually prevents innovation and experimentation for building better reputation systems. We will be stuck with Twitter's algorithms for a long time.
