Been playing with #Deno and #FreshJS to build a small app for #LegendsOfRuneterra, and the developer experience has been amazing so far.
#DenoDeploy is freaking amazing. It's the closest I've ever gotten to push and forget. I usually like to #SelfHost, but for this project I didn't want to bother with all that.
Deno will be on the top of the list for whenever I want to work on a side project. (Now just need to think how I can champion for it at work...)
My words for 2024 is going to be #CognitiveLoad (thanks @ironicbadger ), which is something I am going to reduce. I love #selfhost and #homelab but limited time means limited brain power. So this year I decided to support #foss services to save my limited brain power. Started with #logseq and #Fosstodon. I can't support all the ones I enjoy but hoping to spread my limited funding around each month.

Ein Server für Nextcloud, Pleroma (Fediverse), E-Mail und Co ist dank @yunohost schnell eingerichtet, ihr braucht eine Domain für alles und richtet für jeden Dienst eine Subdomain ein. Sagen wir ihr habt example.com, dann mail.example.com (E-Mail Server, Adressen sind dann Vorname@example.com), social.example.com für Pleroma (Mastodon Ersatz), cloud.example.com für #Nextcloud....
Yunohost bietet noch mehr.
Wenn ihr an sowas Interesse habt fragt mich gerne, ich helfe beim Einstieg.
Geht über ein kleines VPS oder auch über einen Raspberry Pi4 (oder besser), aber ich würde einen virtuellen Server empfehlen die haben dann oft schon hohe Ausfallsicherheit und Backups im Basispreis dabei.
Backup, Restore, Einrichtung, Installation und Konfiguration sind bei Yunohost sehr einfach, Apps gibt es sehr viele (also Apps für auf dem Server wie Nextcloud oder Pleroma) und deren Updates sind auch immer einfach zu machen.

So my Raspberry Pi 5 arrives tomorrow but I don’t have a good use case for it 😅
I have a home server that I use for self hosting that still has capacity.
Any suggestions on what I could use the Pi for specifically? I’d like it to be useful to people other than myself. I have my home server for my personal uses.

The last I’ll say on Beeper/Apple/iMessage debacle:
I think it’s within Beeper’s right to attempt at reverse engineering iMessage, but not Apple’s responsibility to be forced or even expected to host Beeper customers. It’s clear Apple doesn’t want to and I don’t blame them. If this ever went to court, Apple would obliterate Beeper—even if they switched lawyers. It’s not Beeper’s right to push the burden and expense of hosting on Apple.

So, another trend this year—beyond all of the “fire everybody, figure out how everything works later” shenanigans—is the winding down of all the mundane cons of tech, such as the unsustainable “unlimited” deals that made it impossible for small or medium-sized companies to compete in the SaaS space.
Both Dropbox and Google have been dropping their ‘unlimited storage’ features because, y’know, apparently money is no longer free
