Sometimes I write intimate eschatologies or words about technology and math. Sometimes I make things by burning them with light or squeezing them through a small, hot tube. Sometimes I push water with a stick while sitting in a tiny boat.

@mcc @unormal Notably, when Append grows the builder past its capacity, it creates a new builder instance. If there is a pool somewhere, I could easily see that pool getting exhausted by the loop in the sample code.

xgranade,
@xgranade@wandering.shop avatar

@unormal Oh, absolutely. Even if their implementation of StringBuilder is backed by native code, that output is cursed.

@unormal Does it help to specify the initial capacity of the StringBuilder? E.g.: new StringBuilder(1000)?

    my friend teaches creative writing at a private school. he’s now forced to upload a calendar and a detailed syllabus with itemized evaluation points and not deviate from this at all, because the school considers this a contract with the customer (the student). absolute hell.

    @xgranade@wandering.shop avatar

    @lzg Had a similar problem in Alaska, too. About twenty years ago, my undergrad told me they I couldn't complete my proposed degree program because they didn't know how to enter it into their custom Oracle business logic front-end.

    I can only imagine how much worse things have gotten since then.

    xgranade,
    @xgranade@wandering.shop avatar

    @lzg (The trick in my case turned out to be getting it approved by someone who was retiring in a month, and who was quite happy to make it someone else's problem to solve.)

    I do love how many lore errors can be fixed by saying "....and that person is bad at geography/history" WHICH IS TOTALLY VALID.

    When I was in high school in 2002 I knew someone who had only just learned Afghanistan is in the middle east, and not South America.

    Otherwise smart people will make stupid mistakes like saying south when they mean north, or will do some quick mental math with dates and make a mistake.

    (Yes, I've been reading someone doing a deep dive into MtG lore)

    @Canageek I would not trust Jace to (a) correctly recall any meaningful geographic information, or (b) honestly communicate such information to another living soul.

    Apropos of nothing, remembering going to Vegas last year for Fan Fest and encountering the absolute and entire absurdity that is the Convention Center Loop.

    Literally, it's just two one-mile underground tunnels that only drive Teslas. It's the most wildly impractical and ridiculous thing, and yet, there it is.

    The future of transportation as imagined by the intersection of Vegas hotels and Silicon Valley techbros: lanes of traffic, but very expensive, enormous fire hazards, and completely proprietary.

    Reading about creature-only commander decks, now my demand avoidance is going into full overdrive and making me wonder if you could make a reasonably successful commander deck with no creatures whatsoever (e.g.: with one of the few planeswalkers that can be a commander).

    xgranade,
    @xgranade@wandering.shop avatar

    This is obviously ridiculous and quite daft besides, but it's funny, and that's obviously more important than practical.

    xgranade,
    @xgranade@wandering.shop avatar

    If you're playing Magic, presumably it's at least in part to have fun? Making shitpost decks that completely violate expectations is definitely one way to do that — I've been making colorless decks since early Mirrodin, so it's definitely something I've enjoyed, to be sure.

    xgranade,
    @xgranade@wandering.shop avatar

    @xyhhx Oh, yeah. I'm proud of the deck I made entirely around the goal of getting Mimic Vat to imprint on a Mimic Vat, even with the singleton restriction in Commander.

    xgranade,
    @xgranade@wandering.shop avatar

    @WizardOfDocs Oh, that sounds interesting! I'm currently trying to make a Be Gay, Do Crimes deck with the new crime keyword, fwiw.

    @xgranade@wandering.shop avatar

    @WizardOfDocs Was thinking Sisay, Weatherlight Captain for color identity. She's not in canon gay, but.........

    @WizardOfDocs Ooooo, nice!

    xgranade,

    xgranade,

    @WizardOfDocs Both? But yeah, there's a lot of cute rules to WHO that might just be too cute?
