First they require in-person #returnToOffice, then they relocate business units from one location to another, and force those who can’t uproot their lives to leave.
The Apple location in #SanDiego isn’t going away. But they intentionally forced 121 people to choose between moving to #Austin, or lose their jobs. Make no mistake, this is a layoff.
Never mind the fact that #Texas is hostile to anyone with a uterus, or is not cishet—why the hell anyone would move to that state? If anything, Apple should be shutting down their Austin office, and paying for people to relocate to a state that better ensures their safety.

"“Smart streetlights” — a network of pole-mounted artificial intelligence-powered cameras and microphones — are not just a tool. They do not even provide light. They comprise an infrastructure that, once in place, makes pervasive and dystopian surveillance just a system upgrade away."
Sometimes I enjoy collaborating with other photographers. This is one of those. A friend of mine here in New Mexico captured this amazing view while on vacation in San Diego. A gorgeous sunset is the backdrop for the Bubble Man creating rainbows of giant bubbles on the beach. Is this not gorgeous?!
When the manager of a #SanDiego library learned protestors had deliberately checked out every single LGBTQ book, with the intention of holding them forever hostage, she took her story to the media. (...)
After the San Diego Union-Tribune ran an article about the books being hijacked, Peterson — who oversees the Rancho Peñasquitos branch of the San Diego Public Library — was inundated with brand-new replacements.
(...)
Amazon boxes by the dozens started arriving at the library after the initial article, containing copies of the books that had been taken by the anti-LGBTQ protestors.
In addition, roughly 180 people — mostly San Diegans — donated more than $15,000 to the library system. The city agreed to match that amount, meaning there's more than $30,000 earmarked for more LGBTQ-themed materials and programming."

Hi! My #introduction. I’m a #PhD with dual wet-lab & dry-lab skills in biochemistry and bioinformatics/genomics, currently in #SanDiego. I’m coming up on the end of my #postdoc in 6 months and am deeply considering my next steps. Am open to any career advice & informal chats, especially on the classic #industry vs #academia dilemma, and the less classic #wetware (#laboratory) vs #software dilemma. Feel free to reply, DM, or email at tfallon@ucsd.edu , or of course, toot @photocyte !
