Big Barrel is off to the dumpster to get some grub. Jakub Żulczyk draws a picture of decline in Many Years of Hardships, translated by John and Małgorzata Markoff.
Just beginning to reading a new danmei series, “Golden Terrace” 🌸 which was recommended to me by @geraineon. After a quick break reading some Japanese manga, I’m ready for the more complex world of these novels. Masha, the tiny black kitty, is ready for sofa time 😺📚

Started watching the videos of a booktuber. What I like about her is that instead of roasting and hating books, she mostly presents books which she loves.
And I really appreciate this approach.
However, it seems we have a different book taste. I read a novel she recommended, but to me the pacing was too slow. She also loves a classic novel which I didn't finish, because most of the characters are horrible people.

Started reading The Iron Dragon's Daughter by Michael Swanwick. I read this book over 2 decades ago, and was often at a loss for many of the words in it were foreign to me. Now 25 years later, at least I have Google, and I'm definitely expanding my vocabulary, but I do understand it a lot better than I had before. So far it's as good as I remember. Heck better even because I can understand it now. #book#reading#SciFi
It's official, folkes! Cruel Provocations is now available!
A couple of reviews already that are five stars, neither from people who have any reason to be nice to me. I'm overwhelmed.
I would suggest not using Amazon for a physical copy. They have KDP and get shirty about fulfilling other POD services. So Booktopia or Barnes & Noble for the physical. Amazon are great for the eBook versions, as are any of the other stores.
I'm really enjoying Ray Bradbury book: "Zen in the Art of Writing". Now 50% read since yesterday and makes me think about the art of writing. I wanna try to write 1000 words per day as he did
Ok, "Fahrenheit 451" added in my TBR list! #reader#reading#book#bookworm#RayBradbury
Just finished #readingThe Tyrant Baru Cormoran. So some thoughts, no spoilers:
It is as good as I was hoping. The structure involves a lot of jumping back and forth, but though it may not seem so at first, it is done for good reasons and not just to confuse the reader.
The book is a part of a series, and satisfying in that regard, solving a lot of loose threads, but leaving the ending open.
There is a lot of violence done to bodies, some of it disturbingly described. This is not a book for squeamish people.
Overall, while Traitor and Monster saw Baru confident and then lost, I'd argue Tyrant is about her finding herself again.
Very strongly recommend it.
I feel a bit stuck in my reading. The cosy mysteries and fantasies are becoming a bit boring. (Just read a few to many one after another) But my brain is unwilling to process harder SFF or litfic. Nothing on my tbr really appeals. Anyone have ideas for genres I could try? @bookstodonmy@boeken#bookstodon#books#reading

Hey all! 👋🏼 It’s #introdction time! My name is Hannah and I want to share a little about myself:
I’m a #wife (my hottie husband is @alex ) and a #mom of 3 awesome boys 🐻🐻🐻
I’m a co owner of Markley Bros. Entertainment and a cast member on our #dnd show Ember Fables! I #homeschool my kids and drink enough #coffee to fuel a small army ☕️
Still reading The Tyrant Baru Cormoran. This stuff is dense and rich, and takes time to digest. Also, only so much of certain types of body horror I can take in one go. So while I usually read a book in one or two days, this one's taking me a lot longer, started on the 20th and I'm about 4/5 done. Needless to say, I think it's a great book.
I've never been able to get into Stoicism, but I still like reading about different philosophies. However, I also know that that is one where a lot of popular works deviate badly from the original.
So, a question: are Ryan Holiday's books solid/accurate? Are they in line with ancient Stoic philosophy? Are they a purely modern interpretation? Are they worth reading for growing my non-expert knowledge (in a positive, not just critiquing, way)?
@aehdeschaine@bookstodon The commercialism of Holiday's various Stoicism-related projects is also a turn-off for me. I have always felt that he doesn't do much write books to teach people about Stoicism as he teaches people a Stoicism to sell books. #stoicsm#books#philosophy#reading#stoicAuthors
