According to The Washington Post, a #weather station near #Acapulco recorded a wind gust of 205 mph during the landfall of Category 5 Hurricane Otis, which is one of the highest ever observed in the world.
#Otis is the strongest #hurricane on record to strike the west coast of Mexico.
For the record, the highest ever recorded wind gust was measured on Barrow Island, Australia, in 1996, with a speed of 253 mph.
"“The direct physical damage and net-loss business interruption costs from Hurricane Otis will result in a minimum $10 billion in economic losses,” Steve Bowen, chief science officer for the global reinsurance broker Gallagher Re, wrote in an email. “It will be one of the costliest natural catastrophe events on record for Mexico.”" #Wx#disasters
@shekinahcancook The insurance companies already see this, and that's why you see them pulling out of Florida and California. There was an article (which I can't find) where people were aghast at their insurance costs in the Keys of Florida, and complaining (I remember a couple paid off their house and dropped their insurance, and I shook my head...) -- humans are very good at denial.
