Getting diagnosed with ADHD as an adult feels like being told you suck at Mario Kart your whole life and then finding out your game generates 40 times more banana peels than it's supposed to...
ADHD involves so many micromoments of shame. Stepping over the pile of laundry. Re- remembering the bill you still haven't paid. The sink full of dishes and the
fridge leftovers lurking in the back. The small but recurring "I should have" is cumulative and it's painful...😬😩
My ADHD ass: Shit. It's almost 11 AM Which means it's almost 12 PM. Which means it's practically 3:00 in the
afternoon. Where has the day gone??!
Guess nothing got done today......🤦♂️😩
You don't need to tell me twice. You need to tell me 5 times, because I wasn't listening the first time and then the 2nd time l was thinking about how sad it is there's no baby butterflies and then the 3rd time I was trying really hard but you mumbled and then the 4th time I wasn't listening again...🤦♂️
Tip for those neurotypicals with Neurodivergent friends:
If you don't hear from your ADHD friend I promise they aren't mad at you. They are currently trapped in an inter dimensional plane where only YouTube/TikTok exists. They are dehydrated and have not seen the sun or have eaten more than wheat thins and string cheese for days.
I post about creative stuff, my day & #dogs & #ADHD (the pros & cons) it's #NeuroDiverse not neurodiminished. Surprising how many in creative / tech now have diagnosis.
I believe in hope, in optimism, in learning from our mistakes, adapting, innovating, improving. I like to post about interesting advances, about beneficial things we can, or could do, at individual or large scale.
I like to follow lots of different people. It can be good for keeping a bit of my scrappy european languages skills together too. Also I intensely disliked Twitter's unheard serfs vs broadcasting overlords model of low follows but high following (for post visibility) it seemed sort of arrogant & elitist.
Everyone matters. I profoundly ❤️ that #Fediverse leaves air in the room for the quiet ones, the shy ones, the awkward ones. Sometimes I can talk to a room, sometimes I'd rather watch from the sides, depends on the day or setting.
That's probably enough for most people, I might add more below.
Every now and then I remember something I enjoyed doing as a kid, and I'm shocked nobody realised I was autistic.
Like i remember my mother trying to coax me not to draw floor plans of places we were because it was so weird it embarrassed her.. but nobody thought to ask why a 6 year old was not only obsessed with drawing floor plans, but also had the spatial reasoning to do so?
