⬛📦 Our NeXTstation Turbo lives! 😍 The screen needs some repair because it displays a very dark image with some lines at the top, but the system boots up nicely. An impressive beast from 1990 with 32 MB of RAM!
As directed by Patreon members, I've started working on a 1:6 scale NeXTcube. My general plan is to model the cube, the keyboard, the mouse, the MegaPixel Display, and the laser printer and sell it as a tiny workstation. I'm also researching the Connection Machine 2 and thinking about whether it needs peripherals like a terminal. Both machines have been modeled before so I feel the need to go the extra mile and contribute something new. #retrocomputers#miniatures#NeXTcube#FreeCAD
The main shapes of the MegaPixel display are roughed out and I've ordered a small TFT that I hope will nicely fit inside. I'm tempted to also fit the microcontroller board inside the display case (where the tube would be on the originals) because a cable from the cube with enough lines to drive the TFT would be much thicker than a correctly scaled original cable. I suppose that I could use a microcontroller in each and send image data via BLE 😸. #retrocomputer#miniature#NeXTcube
For all who like statistics:
All in all, my #NeXTcube mini consists of 13 parts to be printed. One part has to be printed several times, so I have a total of 18 parts to print.
The print time according to the slicer is 1 day, 2 hours and 42 minutes. This consumes 657 grams of filament.
Play around with the realtime renderer of the current 3D model status:
Listen friends I need your help. I'm deeply attracted to these various kinds of enclosures and have a deep need to buy them and instal LCD screens and big click-y knobs and such in them... but I don't know what the heck I want to build.
I'm in danger of just getting one and "figuring it out later" this is madness.
