If someone follows you or you spot someone with a "large number" in followers/follows and almost no posts that doesn't mean it's a bot account but rather the person is just auto-deleting their posts!
This is a feature in #Mastodon you can find under settings 😉
The most important ones:
Make an #introduction post littered with hashtags that are relevant to your interests. People with those interests are likely to follow or boost your introduction for more visibility.
Follow Follow Follow! Follow people that seem interesting to you. It's the basis of "federation" across the fediverse and helps your toot travel to other instances.
Where oh where, in the goodness gracious mother of FUCK, is the U.S. corporate news media national coverage of Carlee Russell gone missing in the USA? Your asses covered rich wankers in a minisub off Newfoundland, Canada but you fucks are SILENCIO on a BLACK woman. #CarleeRussell#BlackMastodon#Mastodon
IMPORTANT: WE MUST FIND CARLEE RUSSELL. 🙏🏿 Another Black woman gone missing in America. Please spread the word on your social media by posting or reposting this or the image you see here. Spread the word on your podcast, too. Thank you.
Please call 205-401-3365 to provide police with any information on her whereabouts.
I'll readily admit I'm no bug lover, but I do make an exception for the Praying Mantis. I find everything about them fascinating. Happy to report that two juveniles have finally showed up on the rose bushes outside my kitchen window. Available as a PNG file on my Pixels site, so you can change the background color.
#Mastodon, #Fediverse, #Tech lovelies: can I be real? Non-tech people have no idea what you’re talking about ½ the time you are explaining how this works. Like none.
1st identify what isn't behind CloudFlare, for example, your email services, and relocate them either to another server or use a service (MailChimp for example).
You don't want anything that cries out "over here."
2nd buy a new IP and log into CloudFlare, assign that IP to your domain records, as if it was already active
3rd remove the old IP and now apply the new IP to your server
I made this post last night about a (really badly designed, neoliberal) survey on #ClimateChange from the Irish government on both twitter and #Mastodon at the same time.
Both have the same number of RTs/Boosts as of now. I wonder if Mastodaoine, #IrishMastodon is getting enough mass to make it a good place to share and discuss for #IrishPolitics. #irlpol
Y’all. I keep my (private) instagram account open because I follow lots of amazing artists who don’t publish elsewhere.
The other day I commented on a post. Something I don’t ever do. This triggered a sea of hateful and venomous replies. I didn’t even say anything offensive.
I am now reminded of why I love Mastodon. So much.
Mastodon absolutely needs more journalists. We should not have millions of people boosting one another’s ideas without a solid contingent of people in here professionally trained to vet stories, check facts, and use best practices for sharing news. It is, imo, an urgent issue & critical for the ongoing success of the fediverse #Press
@seachanger@maria This whole thread has been so important. I was a reporter for a decade so I know it's flaws... but ethical and transparent #journalism remains so crucial to a free and safe society.
#Mastodon is only starting to make sense to me. It's a steep learning curve but when you get it, wow you GET it.
I really want the fediverse to thrive and survive-- and that means a greater variety of voices.
Threads may have 100M sign-ups but my sense, just from what I see when I visit, is that only a single-digit percentage are active. I wonder what the DAU’s are…
@neumarcx@timbray Same, signed up, used it for 2 days, realized it was so "algorythmicly" (Dont think thats a word) influenced, and then deleted the app. In my opinion, nothing beats #Mastodon
@RedCore On my computer I use Linux-based operating systems for anything other than games. Linux is FOSS, so I would be able to see if it was collecting data on me, how it was collecting data, and where.
My main phone is an iPhone, but I barely use it. If I ever needed to do something that an iPhone might maliciously collect data on, I would use my Nexus 5 instead. It’s old and android, and does not collect any data.
For social media I use #mastodon which does not collect data
Threads withdrawal is hard, I miss the UI. It's just soooooo minimalistic. The withdrawal effect you ask? It get harder and harder to not build a client with the same UI.
@dimillian@developerjustin Though I would like to think a lightweight app would be cool, like I sometimes use #Elk, I feel the features are what make each #Mastodon client interesting and useful.
That doesn’t mean a client can’t have the minimalist feel and features together…
Now what would be fun is some fancy CSS to make the mobile website lighter (but then we’re back at Elk).
Remember what I said about not being suckers when it comes to #Meta and #Threads? Meta now says that federation with Threads is a "long" way out. Suckers!
