I’ve searched for accounts to follow using all these tags and found only very few, and none of the power users I follow on Twitter. There is still a wealth of knowledge on Twitter that #Mastodon does not offer yet. If you know anyone please recommend them so I can #follow
I am also coming back to #mastodon is the fact that I am starting 100 Days of SwiftUI, by @twostraws. So I need a social place to write and discuss my learnings.
I've spent this morning messing about adding an #RSS feed of my #Mastodon profile to my blog. A lot of the recipes out there on the web rely on things which are now blocked by cross-site scripting issues, and a lot of the others are pretty ugly. So I've put up a gist of what I've done for others to copy or adapt.
Quitting #twitter feels like leaving an obnoxious party full of kerfuffle drunks and seething crowds that egg them on, while being bombarded with ads for depilatory creams for gentlemen but the ads were engineered by hostile actors whose true objective is to make the balls of the audience fall off.
Then you join #Mastodon, and all of a sudden people are not irate, they are not flat, they have a multiplicity of interests including tequila, and they are not trying to harvest your fingerprints.

But those of you who police what people say and #CW really need to stop. This was something I didn't even encounter on the hell hole that was #Twitter.
I prefer people to CW political posts, but if they don't, it doesn't make my life hell. I just filter or block of I need to.
We all need to manage our mental health. We shouldn't expect people to do that for us.

I love #Mastodon for giving me this feeling of an old-fashioned internet without moderation and #cw labels. People had to think for themselves and weren't forced to care about the feelings of every freak that came across their posts.

Is there a way to "collapse" a stream of boosts by one person in your follow list? Like, I don't want to necessarily mute them, but occasionally I see 30+ boosts from a particular individual I'm following and I wish I could get to the end of it a bit faster to see what other friends are posting about today. #mastodon#elk

#Mastodon provides an API which third party apps can let users authenticate to with OAuth and then perform actions on their account like posting new statuses, favoriting, etc.
Why do people keep building entire new #ActivityPub implementations instead of just letting you login with the #fediverse account you have and then posting the activities you generate in that app on your account?
Instead each new site is a new @username you have to get people to follow.
the default media sizes on #mastodon are incredibly frustrating. for some reason a 1 megabyte webm file is deemed TOO LARGE by default? man i don't want to have to fuck with my configuration files to to shitpost my #overwatch highlights...
I haven’t checked the official Mastodon app since I moved here last November, but it has undergone a lot of improvement! I’m glad they’ve added the Local timeline in (dubbed “Community”), and the “News” tab is interesting. Federated timeline would be nice, but I honestly don’t use that much so it’s not really a dealbreaker for me. What apps do you prefer?
On CNN, NBC News and NY Times websites front pages: either small blurbs mentioning “woman in Alabama…” near the bottom of their homepages or mentioning her name along with other “trending” subjects across the top. Honestly I miss old fandom spaces. It feels like all the old ones like tumblr n twitter are slowly dying.

@drowsychaotic very true and it can be difficult finding a good fandom space. It's why I joined #mastodon as a #socialmedia. When I left my ex I gave up facebook entirely and I've never been a fan of Twitter nor Instagram. I love the lack of algorithm on here compared to #tiktok or such. #discord and here work nicely together. I get the media part here and the social part of discord

@mike I mostly agree, but I just want to pick two small nits; 1) users do like engagement as well, and I think a lack of an #algorithm to drive it is a detriment to adoption; people used Twitter to find an audience and self promote. If the #fediverse doesn't solve that something else must. 2) #mastodon has plenty of hate and fear, it's just not based on discrimination. We hates #AI, #NFTs, #climatechange, anti maskers, #Threads and #Bluesky. We bask in hate and fear as much as any social media.
