: This scene is a mosaic of two Right Mastcam-Z camera images taken by NASA's Perseverance rover on 27 May 2024 at a local time of 3:15 pm. The color approximates natural human vision. Most boulders are largely basaltic, with evidence of being rounded by wind. We can't wait to learn the composition of the lighter-toned one in the middle of the scene, though, as it appears to be something different. Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/ASU/Paul Byrne

I ran out into the freezing cold my pajamas at 5:30 this morning to snap the waning crescent #Moon and #Mars meeting in the eastern sky.

That is now done, so I can stay in bed all following mornings.

@andrealuck 1-3 are great photos, number four is just jaw-dropping. That planet is beautiful.

@proactiveservices cheers! I hope you browsed them via flickr link as that kind of high resolution isn’t supported on Mastodon :)

Martian meteorites are turning out to be quite an asset. These tiny bits of rock were chipped off of Mars, flung into space, and eventually landed on Earth about 11 million years ago. Today they’re giving scientists new insight into the fine structure of the outer later of the red planet. Science Alert explains: https://flip.it/Lb8hDb

#PPOD: Korolev is an ice-filled impact crater in the Mare Boreum quadrangle of Mars, located at 73° north latitude and 165° east longitude. The crater is 81.4 kilometers in diameter and contains about 2,200 cubic kilometers of water ice, comparable in volume to Great Bear Lake in northern Canada. Wow check this out: the Martian rover Perseverance made a huge leap forward to reach its Sol 1162 location, right in the middle of Neretva Vallis, in the close vicinity of an island-like mound.
