If we celebrate what people living with #dementia are able to do, rather than dwelling on what they have lost, our world and theirs will be more colorful.
We made it to Friday #Kindness, so I'm asking you to share the kindness you've seen this week.
From carrying someone's bags to supporting someone through a crisis, I'd love to hear about it.
If you're happy for your story to be shared on Time for Kindness, please say so. But don't be afraid to share if you aren't - let's celebrate kindness in all shapes and sizes.
#Kindness Headline:
Intelligence and kindness are the most valued traits in romantic partners, study finds https://www.psypost.org/intelligence-and-kindness-are-the-most-valued-traits-in-romantic-partners-study-finds/
“The main takeaway of this study is that intelligence & kindness are the most desired traits of a partner, even in comparison to beauty, money or health...This is true for both men and women and across the sexual orientation spectrum – although heterosexual men do place a premium on their partner’s physical attractiveness.”
Self reported study, but still good to see.
A #HairSalon based near downtown #VictoriaBC hopes to continue being a vital part of the local #community by providing for #FreeHaircuts to those living in poverty and in difficult financial circumstances.
After more than 20 years of cutting hair, Jamie McCallum opened #CommunitySalons in 2021, #pioneering a new business model with the goal of providing free haircuts to those who can’t afford a standard barbershop or salon.
Getting another molar pulled on Wednesday. I'll need dentures this year & need #MutualAid help to pay for them - no medical coverage for dentures. I have only few molars left.
My #medical#fundraiser update -
$730 raised of $4,205 goal • 14 donations total.
THANK YOU, to everyone who donated to my medical fundraiser! THANK YOU, to everyone who shared my link!
I can call to book appointment with denturist to start on getting full set of dentures made. I have another dentist appointment today to extract another molar & plan for rest of extractions.
Very grateful for the kindness & mutual aid support! Alleviates stress & anxiety💗
Laying in bed, under comfy covers. The windows are open just a bit to let in a cool breeze and the sound of rain. For a brief moment, nobody needs anything from me, and there is nothing I have to do right now, but be. Had a nice dinner with the wife, kid got to do fun stuff this evening.
It's a tiny moment of joy
Soon enough I'll have to pick back up tasks and worries and plans, but not just yet.
As carers, we make an enormous number of decisions daily. None are small, easy, trivial. Each feels weighty and some may feel paralyzing because we recognize how they add up in quality of life for those we support.
The Dong family shared with #NBCNews that they will be donating $5 million to #Black#CollegeStudents around the U.S. — a donation that will be funded by the sale of their home in Coronado, #California, which they say they obtained in 1939 thanks to a Black entrepreneurial couple in the city.
Today marks the beginning of Ramadan for Muslims. Our Muslim friends have had a rough go in America because of Xenophobia. So please give them some love.
I spent time learning more about their journey by meeting with some folks at a Mosque in our neighborhood. I brought them oranges and told them they had a friend.
If you’re like me, you may forget to be as kind to yourself as you are to others. And we need to stop that shit.
Society tells us what’s “normal,” but we’re all so unique that this standard is subjective at best. Our bodies, behaviors, joys…they’re what make us who we are.
Dear society: you could just drop "sir" and "ma'am" and other gendered terms from your public service patter. Literally no one would know it wasn't there, and you'd save so much grief in the world.
"Thanks, have a good day!" has the same weight and impact as "Thanks, have a good day, sir!" No one would know. You could make this change right now, and save the sanity of so many people, trans and cis alike.
