I just would like to point out that
none of the accounts I was forced to create for job applications so far had any options for multi-factor authentication or for deleting the account.
And all of the accounts I was forced
to create for job applications so far required to enter very sensitive information that was completely unnecessary to require.
Please I implore you,
do not require candidates create an account to apply for an open position.
Candidates often apply to hundreds of places before finding a right fit. Can you imagine having to create a hundred accounts that you will never use after just for that? This is a real data privacy nightmare for them, and for you too!
THE FORM: "You should enter your resume and I will fill all the fields for you MAGICALLY" :magic_wand:
Me: "No thanks"
Me: spend time carefully filling each field in the job application manually and wishing they would just read my resume I also spent hours building manually and offers much better explanations and context
THE FORM: "Now that you have filled all the fields, give me your resume!" :neko_smiley:
Me: uploads my resume :blocky_white_cursor:
THE FORM: "Now I will overwrite ALL THE FIELDS with what I think works best because I AM SUPER INTELLIGENT WAY MORE THAN YOU. You're welcome!" 🤡
I’ve built this little webpage
a few months ago to present together some of the work I did and help me find a job: https://emontheinternet.me
But, I am still uncertain about which drawing profile would be best for this, if any 🤔
I have not built this webpage for myself so I need external opinions. Your opinions (boosts welcome for reach) :boost_ok:
Which one of these
profile pictures do you think would work best on my webpage to find work? Or perhaps it would be best not to put any? What do you think?
Keep in mind that ✱
I am not targeting large corporations with that. I am aware my website doesn’t fit the “LinkedIn” style. But which picture do you think my favorite public-interest and/or privacy organizations would like the best? 💚👇❔
(read alt-text to see each picture' number)
EDIT: I added a poll below for people who prefer to vote without commenting. I could not include both a poll and pictures in the same post 📥👇
Okay Fediverse, as funding is not happening at the levels necessary to sustain me working full-time on the Fediverse (whether that's on trust & safety or on Mastodon), I'm now looking for part-time or contract positions.
Most recently I worked for Sir Tim Berners-Lee's company Inrupt.
Hey y'all! This is a tech job thread! I know this is a tough market, and I want to create visibility for people so that they can get help finding jobs. If you're hiring, let me know!
ESPECIALLY for
Entry level (especially for people with no prior work experience)
Underrepresented folks
Nontraditional backgrounds
Companies with an ethical mission
Please boost! It means a lot :blobfoxheartcute: ❤️
To my shock, I was laid off today, another senseless casualty of the perpetual re-orging and belt-tightening that follows being acquired by a private equity firm. Despite the fact that I've give three different product demos in as many weeks, apparently I am not contributing enough. I feel deeply and profoundly betrayed by a job that I loved. To be clear, this was an upper management decision; my former coworkers and friends are just as shocked and saddened as me. #JobSearch#FediHire
Well it looks like I’m about to lose my job right at the same time that my rent is getting increased 🫠
For those who don’t know, I’m Elly, a queer and neurodivergent accessibility and front-of-the-front-end development specialist with a strong passion for design.
I’m looking for part-time (4days/week) remote work. I’m currently based in Naarm (Melbourne, Australia). I’m also looking for an inclusive and ethical workplace.
What new word should be
created to describe the specific angst of a privacy professional having their own data harvested left and right by HR third-party software while ironically applying for jobs in the privacy field? :dumpster_fire_gif:
Got a 4th-round job interview this morning. Gratefully accepting thoughts, prayers, incantations, interpretive dances with jazz hands. #JobSearch#KillMeNow
My life right now is
resume optimization,
posting about job search,
reading about job search,
talking about job search,
building websites for job search,
reading depressing job posts,
And. I. Hate. It. :blobcatnotlike:
Please help liberating me by
helping me find a cool fitting job on the Fediverse so that I can go back to talking about the cool [privacy|python|advocacy] stuff I do at that cool TBA organization I just got hired at instead.
