To my shock, I was laid off today, another senseless casualty of the perpetual re-orging and belt-tightening that follows being acquired by a private equity firm. Despite the fact that I've give three different product demos in as many weeks, apparently I am not contributing enough. I feel deeply and profoundly betrayed by a job that I loved. To be clear, this was an upper management decision; my former coworkers and friends are just as shocked and saddened as me. #JobSearch#FediHire
@simonvarwell Thanks Simon. I take great pride in what I did and I have a big enough ego to know that it wasn't my fault. When a private equity syndicate buys your company, the fastest way to make a buck is to get rid of anything that will be useful in the future... like the R&D department.
@c_dan4th yeah such short termism. It’ll be back to kick them in due course no doubt. If you know it’s not your fault that’s your moral high ground right there.
It's hard to see past the grief and anger right now. But what makes me the most sad is that literally none of the half dozen cutting-edge technology inventions I was involved in will ever see the light of day. There is zero will to look into the future. The code will sit on a hard drive somewhere and rot into electrons. Even if it doesn't, the chances of anyone else being able to resurrect it are vanishingly small. I have accomplished, literally, nothing in the past five years.

@Artemis201 y'know, I was talking to two different people about LASP just tonight. I went to grad school with Chris Pankratz and Kevin France (though oddly not at the same time).
@c_dan4th Kevin was very nearly my PhD advisor, until I switched from astrophysics to aerospace. Sadly I don't get to work with him much. He runs the CUSP group, which I work adjacent to. When I have time, I like to attend their group meetings just to talk about new science and engineering we're working on.
