The first few minutes of this CNN video features an interview with an Israeli reservist who was called back to service after 10 years in civilian life. His words reflect what many Jews and Palestinians have said to me directly over the years.
They don't want to hate each other. They don't want to fight each other. They want to live in peace.
But they keep putting into power people who enact dreadful policies. The most unfortunate thing for Palestinians in Gaza is that when they gave power to Hamas in 2006/7, they had no idea of what kind of brutal dictatorship they were empowering.
Hamas has killed many Palestinians (directly) who oppose them. The Gazans are trapped in a nightmare of their own unwitting creation.
Hopefully when this horror is all over, both Palestinians and Jews will be able to move forward. It will take years to heal the pain of 100 years of conflict, but I believe most of them want to live in peace.
@HeavenlyPossum The implication that you don’t care about the massacre of #Israelis when you object to this is doubly offensive when it’s pretty obvious that, like, #Netanyahu let that massacre happen so that he could make the current massacre in #Gaza happen (as well as shutting down the protests against him, but that part isn’t going the way he wanted).
