Port Ellen, the only significant settlement on the island of Islay's south coast and the island's main deep water harbour. The magnificent Kildalton Cross in the south-eastern corner of Islay: Scotland's finest intact early Christian high cross. 105 years ago today. The troopship HMS Otranto sank off Islay with the loss of 431 lives on 6 October 1918. Her loss, and that of S.S.
