Started a new hard-surface modeling project in MagicaCSG.
By posting works in progress here, I force myself to turn this into something interesting, or I will be unmasked as an impostor, and eternal embarrassment will be my fate. 😅
I'm really starting to enjoy this. There's usually a stage where you need to bite the bullet, but once you get through that, there's often a "Yes, this is going to work out" moment. 🙂
More will follow. See other posts in this thread for more work-in-progress impressions.
Going to try creating a sci-fi gun in MagicaCSG. I'm not very experienced in detailed hard-surface modeling, so it's going to be an interesting challenge.
Disclaimer: I hate real-life guns. My sci-fi gun will emit a peace beam. ✌️😉
I don't know yet which direction this will go, but I notice more and more that adding details is a fine balance between "No, this doesn't work" and "Yeah, I like it!" 🙂
@metin Thanks Metin!
I was a Mechanical Draughtsman in a previous life. That was a long time ago I also did Buildings too for a while.
The first time used CAD was about 1987 or so.
@mbt3d 👍 In 1987 I did my first steps in 3D creation, using Sculpt 3D on an Amiga. It was one of the very first consumer-level 3D editors, and included a ray-tracing renderer, although a ray-traced rendering in 320 x 256 pixels could take up to 24 hours. 😅😅
The Sculpt 3D renderer was used for the famous Juggler demo on the Amiga.
It's been a while since the last time I sketched something in 3D for myself.
I forgot how much fun it is to just go with the flow in Blender without following a concept sheet. Even lost track of time and went to sleep way too late 🥲
But it was worth it 😌
"Robox", my first exploration of the NURBS-based Plasticity 3D editor, which is a useful Blender companion, including mostly the same keyboard shortcuts.
