Boeing Starliner launch from Cape Canaveral scrubbed for tonight. Not unusual for a manned space flight -- better safe than sorry, always. #space#aerospace#Boeing
An #aerospace#engineering company called Planesanity has designed a glass pod with a pair of seats inside that can be installed on existing aircraft, giving passengers a 360-degree view during flight. #avgeek
> A Boeing top official told Congress that employees looked extensively for documents on the door plug and it's likely that such paperwork never existed.
American mathematician and aerospace engineer Mary Jackson died #OTD in 2005.
In 1951 she started working at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), where she was a member of its West Area Computing unit and Jackson’s supervisor was Dorothy Vaughan. Despite early promotions, she was denied management-level positions, and in 1979 she left engineering and took a demotion to become manager of the women’s program at NASA.
For all the disparagement of the #European way of doing #business (especially from international organisations based in the USA), what we can see in the #aerospace sector is that #Airbus are now the dominant manufacturer.... especially now that #Boeing's longer term problems have been compounded by their #737Max difficulties.
[And before you say, ah yes by Airbus get masses of state aid, so does, albeit in different form, Boeing]
These issues with Boeing planes are becoming the norm. I've had multiple flights delayed or planes swapped due to things found before and after boarding.
“Betavolt #atomic#energy batteries can meet the needs of long-lasting #power supply in multiple scenarios, such as #aerospace, #AI equipment, #medical equipment, #microprocessors, advanced #sensors, small drones and micro-robots,” the firm said in a press release.
So are we! In our latest #EverythingOpen retro post, we bring you the wonderful Sam 'techdragon' Bishop, talking all about #linux in #space and #AeroSpace - with a super interesting deep dive into the regulations which serve to prevent sharing code as #OpenSource.
The UK’s first vertical rockets will launch in 2024 after a spaceport in Scotland’s Shetland Islands received approval from aviation authorities — in a boost to Europe’s rocket and small satellites startups.
The UK’s Civil Aviation Authority has granted SaxaVord Spaceport a licence for up to 30 launches a year, after checking it met the requirements for vertical launches.
Europe counts down to Ariane 6 rocket's maiden launch in mid-2024.
Europe's new Ariane 6 rocket launcher will make its first voyage between 15 June and 31 July next year, the European Space Agency has announced. The agency's head said that the project signals the end to a period of crisis for Europe's launch programme.
Open Cosmos, the UK startup that uses satellites to fight climate change, has successfully launched its fourth satellite this year. Its mission? To monitor volcanic activity and wildfires in the Canary Islands.
Part of the ESA PIONEER Programme, the so-called ALISIO-1 is a small 6U satellite, developed for the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands.
The cutting-edge work of Native American aerospace engineer Mary Golda Ross
As Native American Heritage Month comes to a close, for our “Hidden Histories” series, we look at the life and legacy of Mary Golda Ross, the first Native American woman to become an engineer and a pioneering figure of the space age.
