I’m beginning to think the cultural chasm between Americans is NOT between super-rich/average-poor, left/right, atheist/religious, conservative/progressive, power holders/ordinary citizens.
More & more evidence shows the gap to be between those who break with absolute impunity every damn law & moral value they come across - and the rest of us who “do the right thing” 99.9% of the time because it IS the right thing, who pay taxes legitimately owed, who struggle to satisfy our debts, do our jobs, care for those dependent on us, and actually care about others’ welfare.
The differentiation seems to come down to shitty people and non-shitty people, no matter what other factors are in play.
I struggle with the shitties getting ALL of the media’s attention and weighing the rest of us down with their scummy, sleazy, evil antics, especially when (I believe) they are a minuscule minority.
I'm writing get-out-the-vote letters for the November 5 election already. Vote Forward https://votefwd.org/ is a nonprofit that organizes volunteers to send handwritten letters to voters. They can prove they've increased voter #turnout in previous elections, and that's a huge thing in an election that will probably be decided by a razor thin margin.
Here's my first letter. I plan to write ten of them daily until October.
Don’t give up on Florida. This year our wildly popular Amendment 4 should be on the ballot, bringing abortion access back to Florida, & organizers are working hard on #gotv to be sure it passes. Also, our fraudulent US Senator Rick Scott has never campaigned in a Presidential year, & he is going to face quality Democratic competition. We are purple, not red. #DoYourPart

So much of recent state legislating makes so little sense to me.
BEING LGBTQIA+ is not a crime in the US, yet states are enacting so many restrictive laws against specific behaviors, particularly re trans kids/adults.
Marriage equality has been law since 2015, based on the 14th Amendment, yet “conscience exceptions” now apply in some states.
IVF is legal, yet here we go with ridiculous declarations about blastocysts being ‘children’ - before they even become embryos.
For 50 years, abortion up to 24 weeks’ gestation was legal in every state. Since Dobbs, we’ve seen barbaric state law changes, & tragedies.
Next will be restrictions on contraception, LGBTQIA marriage & adoption rights.
States are imposing ludicrous anti-voting rights laws, anti-child labor laws, even trying to suppress the right to interstate travel re abortion.
Did I miss the day the US Constitution was suspended? Citizens of oppressive (red) states are losing their constitutional rights as US citizens.
If the Rs win in November, make no mistake, what this article details -- and happened LAST WEEK -- will be happening to women nationwide.
