The Federal Communications Commission has voted to move forward with a plan to restore Obama-era net neutrality protections. The rules could be re-established as soon as next spring, but the FCC's effort could face legal challenges.
FCC Chair Confirms Plan to Reinstate Net Neutrality Rules Eviscerated Under Trump
"To allow a handful of monopoly-aspiring gatekeepers to control access to the internet is a direct threat to our democracy,"
Open internet advocates across the United States celebrated on Tuesday as Federal Communications Commission Chair Jessica Rosenworcel announced her highly anticipated proposal to reestablish FCC oversight of broadband and restore net neutrality rules.
Former Republican FCC Chairman Al Sikes joins us in asking the FCC to scrutinize Murdoch/Fox TV licenses.
“The FCC must designate for a hearing the application of the Murdochs and Fox for renewal of their license to operate WTXF, Philadelphia.”
As an FCC broadcast licensee, FOX and its subsidiary broadcast stations, have a basic statutory duty to conduct those operations in the public interest.
Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel backs it: "A return to the FCC’s overwhelmingly popular and court-approved standard of net neutrality will allow the agency to serve once again as a strong consumer advocate of an open internet.”
Media Veterans Bill Kristol and Ervin Duggan have joined us in support of our request to the @FCC.
We, and they, are asking our government to consider media ownership and how it affects democracy—to consider if the Murdoch family has the required character to be granted local TV broadcast licenses.
#FCC says "by the end of the day today, all IP-based voice service provider networks are required to implement spoofed robocall defense standards known as STIR/SHAKEN."
Looking for an outlet to place my more #tech-focused (and thus less #tax or strictly #law) policy writing -- anyone know of an outlet that might be amenable to a freelance contributor?
DMs are open, I'm a weekly columnist at Bloomberg Tax, contributor to Forbes Money, among some others. Looking for a tech publication that wouldn't mine hearing a tax/tech attorney and prof opine on things like the currently being contemplated #FCC AI rules, etc.
Fox News told lies about the 2020 election that caused Americans to storm the Capitol in nothing less than a deadly coup attempt. Billionaires who lie for profit don't deserve broadcast licenses. We're doing something about it. You can help by signing on. http://tiny.cc/fccfox
A anonymous group of Internet service providers that won government grants for rural #broadband are asking the #FCC for more money or an "amnesty window" in which they could give up grants without penalty.
A different #ISP group urged the FCC to reject the request, saying that telcos that win grants by pledging to build networks at a low cost are "gaming" the system by seeking more money afterward.
Today is my 22nd anniversary at @eff!22 years ago, I flew with two colleagues to LA and discovered an entertainment industry cartel conspiracy to ban #GeneralPurposeComputers. This led to a suit that killed the #FCC's #BroadcastFlag order. It was the defining day of my adult life.
📣The Capitol insurrection was 30 months ago today… and we’re announcing that @MAD_democracy has petitioned the #FCC to deny the renewal of Fox Corp’s broadcast license for #FOX29philly.
Owning a broadcast station is more than a business—it is a public trust. Rupert Murdoch & FOX have undermined that trust by manipulating its audience & knowingly broadcasting false news about the 2020 election.
Welcome to #America 🇺🇸 where ALL of the major wireless carriers sell customer data to…who are they selling our data to‽ #FCC needs to find out who is buying this data, as it is alarming!
#ATT, #Verizon, #Sprint / #Tmobile (I believe they merged already) are selling our data as if they were #Google. I would not be surprised if various government agencies were buying the info.
A 2nd #Trump admin could #weaponize existing government agencies to dismantle democracy itself.
This article is part of “Project 2025: The Plot Against #America,” a Nation special issue devoted to unpacking the right’s vast & chilling program for a 2nd Trump term.
The outline for such a scenario emerges from a thorough reading of #Project2025’s Mandate for Leadership, which specifically proposes a #Trump-friendly recalculation of the systems that sustain American #democracy. The strategy for establishing an American version of Orbán’s “#illiberal democracy” is not spelled out in any particular chapter of Mandate. Rather, it is woven throughout the whole of the document, w/key elements appearing in the chapters on reworking #DHS, the #FCC, & the #FEC.

Comcast and other ISPs asked FCC to ditch listing-every-fee rule. FCC says "no."
