Here's an interesting piece by Rowan Atkinson on the Q. of whether you should buy a new #electriccar or continue to use your old petrol car a while longer:
its clear that an old car's #environmental costs are largely already accounted for so its only the marginal environmental costs of usage that we should factor into our considerations;
so rather than buy #electricvehicles, we might be better refusing the three year cycle of replacement, & then trying to drive less
One mechanism for forcing the world to deal with the projected impact(s) of #climatechange may be the increasing cost of insurance for those areas most likely to be at the forefront of #environmental effects (damage).
As the costs of future climate-caused effects are no longer able to be treated as uncosted future externalities, we may see a stronger 'business case' for addressing the #climatecrisis.
As so often, its only when a clear cost is allocated that some people finally will wake up!
The documentary was not broadcast in #Canada. Hansen said the reason B.C.’s wood pellet industry is a focus in #UnitedKingdom is the #Drax Power Station in #England.
Preparing the intercessions / prayers tomorrow for Church. It seems to me that when the #Episcopal Church updates the Book of Common Prayer, there is a real need to expand the prayers and meditations to reflect our grief and our calls around #ClimateChange. #Environmental breakdown stresses not only the physical or geological but also the mental, psychological, and spiritual. Religions have a vital role to play going forward.

Me & my hiking friend saw only one other person out in the rains & trails, yesterday. Once you go deeper into the forest, the rain doesn't fall through the trees' canopy as much. The air smelled so good!
Larger and larger groups of what are essentially #poachers encroaching on protected land have invaded the forest and are cutting down trees and pulling up plants at a rapid rate. Whole patches of the tree-dense area are now bare.
What is there to be surprised about when it comes to authoritarian governments standing together? These are China's allies - why expect them to take a different stance just cause its a #environmental issue?
I created some new photo art this morning. 2 new pieces; 1 b/w piece here.
They're visual contrasts between devastating logging #clearcuts & world famous #OldGrowth tree, Big Lonely Doug. These creations are sparked by my lifelong love of ancient #forests & the need to keep protecting them, against government lies & #ecocide industry greed.
The European Union will join an international effort to assess whether large-scale interventions such as deflecting the sun’s rays or changing the Earth’s weather patterns are viable options for fighting climate change.
Okay, so, on the one hand, I definitely understand what "we should tax water" sounds like.
But, on the other, we super need to tax water.
".A groundwater tax could be structured to mirror the environmental and societal costs of #water extraction. The adoption of such a policy would signal a shift from consumption to stewardship."
Given their need for #energy, but also their relative footloose status, as some states start to constrain the siting of data centres in-country for #environmental & energy reasons, we can expect to see some states seeing this as an opportunity....
The #UNESCO site is one of Vietnam's most popular #TouristDestinations, with more than seven million people visiting its blue-green waters & rainforest-topped limestone islands last year.
#Today I switched instances. Why? Let’s not pretend we understand how Mastodon works. I just thought I might find more juicy #canpoli and #onpoli content here at TheCanadian. Excited to make new #science, #academia, #environmental friends who wear plaid and eat #BeaverTails
Over several months, @thenarwhal & The Globe and Mail have scoured publicly available records, reviewed financial data & interviewed experts about #BritishColumbia's mine reclamation plan & found that, in practice, BC was short $753-million of the estimated #cleanup cost in its last financial year & some of the best-capitalized companies have not yet paid for future #ReclamationCosts.
