#OTD on Sept. 17, 1976, NASA rolled out its first space shuttle, named the Enterprise, from its manufacturing plant in Palmdale, California.
The ceremony was attended by 600 invited guests and 185 media representatives.
As Enterprise emerged from the hangar, the Air Force Band of the Golden West from March Air Force Base in Riverside County, CA, played Alexander Courage’s Star Trek musical score.
By chance does anyone have a link to a recording of the #enterprise#Linux panel from #FOSSY today? I'm very interested to watch it, but sadly couldn't make it to the conference this time.
Star Trek: Enterprise is 22 years old today.
NX class, early design by John Eaves
"My boss Herman Zimmerman had found a shape he liked in one of Syd Mead's many books, and thus had me translate the shape into a starship... I was so glad that after he saw it on paper, he changed his mind and we started to pursue a more traditional starship look." #startrek#enterprise#spaceship#conceptart#design#nxclass
It is interesting to observe #recruiters responses as someone who has a #career that is half Game Development and half #Enterprise Software Engineering. When I apply for Enterprise jobs I'm told either "You don't have enough #experience." 🙄 or "You'll just go back to #Gamedev when something is available." (Fair point, it was my original career). When I apply for Gamedev jobs I get "You'll have more luck with Enterprise Java." or "You'll just leave the industry again."
Firing up #PolyPascal on my 40 year old #Enterprise64 for the first time in probably 35 years. Actually, I'm not sure if I ever go PolyPascal running on it, or it was just the previous version, Compas Pascal. Glad to see an old #Dnaisg friend from the #CPM era again though. It's been too long.
Enterprise was a brilliant concept, tying together our spacefaring history with Star Trek and imagining how a NASA-like space program plus warp on the way to Star Trek might look, and how the four founders of the Federation struggled and finally came together. It has brilliant actors, costumes and sets. Even the Xindi species were a cool concept.
And then they wasted three seasons on the awful awful Temporal Cold War, a big bundle of bad and incoherent ideas.
After a 20-year break I am now watching Season 4 and it is brilliant. It's everything I expected and felt robbed of when I first watched the series.
The song is great and fits well with the lo-fi, contemplative atmosphere and pacing.
The question nobody asked, when #Picard took the #Enterprise D from Geordi's Fleet Museum with his buddies: Why were all the lights on behind all of these windows? There was no additional crew on board.
President Biden called the House Republicans’ bluff. They asked for a border bill. They got one. Now they’re proving they were never going to pass one because they need a problem to run on and they were never going to fund Ukraine.
Rewatching #StarTrek#Enterprise and can't help but think that #IronMaiden's "Fear Of The Dark" was always the better theme in every way. (Review / satire)
