Do you prefer typing emoji instead of stopping to choose them from a picker?
You can do this when writing a post on Mastodon's web interface by typing a : (colon) and then a keyword without a space. This will automatically bring up emoji with that keyword in their description.
For example if you type :sun it will show you emoji with the keyword "sun".
(Note that if there are many matches for a keyword, you may need to go to the picker to see them all.)
Here are the emojis I've been working on lately. :drgn_happy_mlem: I want to get away from the lazy cookie-cutter expressions which turned out to be a big challenge.
I haven't added any custom emoji from scratch, but Alex has, and I encourage Jawns to submit emoji that you would like to see. Custom emoji can be PNG or GIF files up to 50kb in size, can be still or animated, can contain transparent backgrounds.
I spent some time on pride infinity emoji. I don’t think they’re amazing — there are just too few pixels to work with, and some of the colors don’t really pop — but nor are they awful. License: CC-NC-SA.
Just like with the other recent releases, there are now 3 downloads: The regular one, an archive for use with the Mastodon Admin CLI, and a high-res one for printing or inclusion in other graphics.
One of these days, I'm gonna get good at doing the Emoji stuff on my phone. I just, like, why would some one spend seconds going to a whole new keyboard, and fidning an Emoji in that big long list, or hitting a search box and typing what they're looking for? Like I feel like it'd take me a long time. I do kinda wish there was a way to just do that quickly in Braille, like hit a command and type "smile" in Braille, hit Enter, and "arrow" through results, kinda like the app search on the home screen we have now.
So Emacs 29 has lots of new commands just for Emoji!
*** New command 'emoji-insert' (bound to 'C-x 8 e e' and 'C-x 8 e i').
This command guides you through various Emoji categories and
combinations in a graphical menu system.
*** New command 'emoji-search' (bound to 'C-x 8 e s').
This command lets you search for and insert an Emoji based on names.
*** New command 'emoji-list' (bound to 'C-x 8 e l').
This command lists all Emoji (categorized by themes) in a special
buffer and lets you choose one of them to insert.
*** New command 'emoji-recent' (bound to 'C-x 8 e r').
This command lets you choose among the Emoji you have recently
inserted and insert it.
*** New command 'emoji-describe' (bound to 'C-x 8 e d').
This command will tell you the name of the Emoji at point. (It also
works for non-Emoji characters.)
*** New commands 'emoji-zoom-increase' and 'emoji-zoom-decrease'.
These are bound to 'C-x 8 e +' and 'C-x 8 e -', respectively. They
can be used on any character, but are mainly useful for Emoji.
*** New command 'emoji-zoom-reset'.
This is bound to 'C-x 8 e 0', and undoes any size changes performed by
'emoji-zoom-increase' and 'emoji-zoom-decrease'.
*** New input method 'emoji'.
This allows you to enter Emoji using short strings, eg ':face_palm:'
or ':scream:'.
To maximize efficiency and keep up with modern culture, you are now encouraged to communicate exclusively in emojis.
Express the intricacies of your utopian life through smiley faces, thumbs up, and the occasional XD.

Remember: Happiness is mandatory. Sad and/or angry emojis are treasonous.
