@matthiasott great summary. One minor thing: ideally, the menus should be able to extend the boundaries of the underlaying main window if there is screen space. They cleverly chose to make the example about *screen * boundaries, so they don’t have to admit that their #Electron app does not really allow for a „best practice“ implementation. Not hating on Electron (I use VSCode a lot), it just has a lot of tradeoffs, especially #ux.

So this Acorn Electron belongs to Mrs YA.
This morning we fired it up and she’s well happy to see it working.
Just need an SD card solution for it now. 🤔

Want to see #Electron apps on #Linux support autostart in a standard way like macOS and Windows, without developers having to write Linux-specific code?
We can make it happen! Linux uses Portals which abstract away the details and can be implemented in frameworks like Electron to be used the same way as on other platforms.
Any Electron app on Linux (like Discord, Bitwarden, Slack, etc.) would benefit from this work, whether running as a #Flatpak or not.
There’s a certain community in tech that’s very vocal about their preference toward native apps. I share that sentiment, yet sometimes people take this idea too religiously. Unfortunately, the actual choice is about having an app or not, and I’d rather take something over nothing.
@yury_mol I just stumbled across this article and wanted to say that I kind of agree - mostly. I would call myself one of the web app and #Electron haters and I still think the latter must vanish. Electron should be replaced with native WebViews, so operating system can at least try to minimise the resource usage when multiple apps are running. And I agree that fast web apps exist. #VSCode is still faster than #VisualStudio. But, let me summarise it like this: (1/2)

Die Anwendung ermöglicht den Konsum von YouTube-Videos auf dem Desktop und schützt die Privatsphäre der Anwender:innen. Weil es eine Electron-Anwendung ist, sei zur Vorsicht gemahnt.
I recently started to use #Gist more, simply to share #Python code on here with you. But I find it very lacking! There could be so much more functionality and it is clear it isn't a priority for #GitHub, really looking for a replacement.
There is some criticism on #Reddit for #MassCode due to it being an #Electron app. RAM isn't a problem as much these days, but some prefer not to use Electron.
Another alternative is #SnyPy, an #opensource on-prem code snippet manager. SnyPy can help you organize your code snippets and share them with your team.
It supports a front-end, backend, and a #Docker :docker: install.
Anyway, it's been on my list to attempt porting it to #Psion#EPOC16 for ages. It's not top priority, but the machine is perfectly designed for playing #textadventure games (see @root42's escapades with #Infocom).
Be great if it could decompile and play old games, too.
I wonder if anyone knows the original developer of the Graphic Adventure Creator (Sean Ellis), and the people who ported it to the #Speccy (Brendan Kelly), #C64 ("The Kid" Malcolm Hellon), #BBCMicro and #Acorn#Electron (both Dave Kirby)?
It would just be cool if they still had the original plans of how it worked, even if the code is long gone.

@itnewsbot It's becoming quite the race in the space sector. SpaceX's Starship test flight is on the horizon and Rocket Lab is ramping up its launches too. China's space industry isn't far behind, with successful launches and a new VLEO satellite. Can't wait to see who will lead in the end. #spacerace#starship#electron#space
Retro computing folks, where's the best place in the UK to get a replacement power supply for an Acorn Electron? I see a number of options online but does anyone have a recommendations? 😁
