Unfall mit Personenschaden: Cruise verliert Erlaubnis für Betrieb von Robotaxis
Seit zwei Monaten darf Cruise fahrerlose Taxifahrten gegen Bezahlung in San Francisco anbieten. Nach einem Unfall wurde der Firma die Zulassung wieder entzogen.

“capital needs of #robotaxis —whether or not people ever actually want them—are almost unimaginably huge”
“big issues with #selfdriving cars is that they won't fail in the same ways that human driven cars fail”
“effort to move out of the testing phase, and effort to focus on growing revenue, and you end up with #Cruise's problems”
“Did they risk angering regulators with their lack of transparency? They did” https://apperceptive.substack.com/p/i-knew-this-was-coming#autonomousvehicles#GeneralMotors
California DMV has revoked #Cruise's permit to operate driverless vehicles, effective immediately. They cite an "unreasonable risk to public safety." @david_zipper reports:
California DMV: "Public safety remains the California DMV’s top priority, and the department’s autonomous vehicle regulations provide a framework to facilitate the safe testing and deployment of this technology on California public roads. When there is an unreasonable risk to public safety, the DMV can immediately suspend or revoke permits. There is no set time for a suspension.
The California DMV today notified Cruise that the department is suspending Cruise’s autonomous vehicle deployment and driverless testing permits, effective immediately."
We've just cruised under the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. The weather has been a little gloomier and chillier and damper than we'd have ideally liked, but I've been told by a friend in the area that they've welcomed the arrival of the lower temperature and rain. Interesting departure passing close to Alcatraz Island and being accompanied by a dozen or more pelicans in the ship's slipstream.
@slashdot hahaha if you’ve seen some of the erratic behavior exhibited by these vehicles lately you’ll want to show them the red carpet to the incinerator. #sfba#cruise#autonomouscar
Earlier this Cruise vehicle pulled up at a red light and blocked the crosswalk. Then he kept inching forward while the light was still red and forced a pedestrian to walk far to close to moving traffic on Divisadero.
I’m all for autonomous vehicles making our streets safer, but this is not that. Was he training the car to copy this behavior? Why block the crosswalk on a busy street? This happened at Fulton and Divis at about 1pm. #Cruise
On my personal blog, I wrote about how robotaxis represent the enshittification of mobility. They represent a spectacular failure of imagination on the part of Silicon Valley techbros, whose only answer to every question is 'just add software!'. Invariably, the wrong answer.
I point out that 15-minute cities actually benefit people who want to drive, by removing unwilling drivers from the roads.
We don't have kids and we're not American so #Halloween has only ever meant that it's our wedding anniversary as far as we're concerned. But this Halloween we're going to be on an American #cruise ship sailing between two American ports and we know that they like to dress up a bit. Subsequently, my wife will be going as the Queen of Hearts and I will be a monk. An evil one, of course. Cheap, lightweight costumes arrived today and they're actually pretty good.
