Tree pose. Who knew American Oystercatcher chicks practiced yoga on the beach?
(Apologies in advance for this, yesterday’s post, and future adorable fuzzy juvenile anniversary birding picture posts. Creation is so amazing!)
Pretty lady. Males get the lion’s share of attention but this female Wood Duck deserves her moment in the spotlight from the water droplets on her green crown to the pale hues coloring the feathers on her back to the iridescent azure on her wingtips.
Today’s #creationstruck moment: the exquisite nature-painted beauty of Wood Ducks. Water droplets, especially on the tops of their heads, are visible if you zoom in.
After quietly traversing the heavily wooded, brushy area around a small, secluded pond last October, my husband and I saw this rare pair of Sandhill Cranes who utterly charmed us with their calls and antics.
#ThrowbackThursday to August 2022 when my husband and I had the thrill of adding a Roseate Spoonbill to our lifter list. This gorgeous juvenile remains my all-time favorite sighting.
This juvenile Red-headed Woodpecker is one of my favorite winter sightings this year. Need to plan a return trip to the nature center to see how much more crimson its head is now.
Who goes there? My husband and I have heard Barred Owls calling while birding but never clapped eyes on one until today. Call me #creationstruck and lifer-thrilled.

Excellent!
You have reminded me of a barred owl photo I have been meaning to post, taken outside our window on a snowy day. (Not as good as yours, though. )
I'll get to it, now I've seen yours.
I know not whether the wind was fair or foul that brought this beautiful Ash-throated Flycatcher from the dry regions of the western U.S. to the Free State, but I offer it my gratitude.
