Some of the changes that we are beginning to experience are not simply rising sea levels or more extreme weather. It doesn’t look good and mitigation will be expensive.
Gas appliances are more than a #ClimateChange issue and the estimated societal cost of $1B annually would buy a lot of induction stoves:
“We found that gas and propane stoves may contribute up to 19,000 adult deaths annually in the United States. We also estimated that long-term NO2 exposure from gas and propane stoves is responsible for approximately 50,000 current cases of pediatric asthma.” https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.adm8680
"With the rising temperatures of #ClimateChange, homeowners face a new type of threat: invasive #termites. Previously unaffected areas could see an influx of termites, and the financial implications are substantial. Currently, termites cause over 40 billion USD worth of damage each year, and as their population expands, this cost is sure to grow."
What happens when a physicist concerned about planetary heating in the 1970s gets a property that was fully wrecked by years of sheep-farming, with almost no trees?
My environmentalist sister, Lis, tracked one down to find out – and it's mind-blowing!
Over 3,000 trees in & still growing more from seed, it's a gorgeous wonderland of a place to live – eco-friendly, biodiverse, off-grid, & protected against extreme weather events... 1/3
Spain has suffered 22,000 heat-related deaths in the last 8 years. How will a new map help?
Spain is bracing itself for another blistering summer, after two record hot years.
Copernicus, the EU’s climate service, says there is an up to 70 per cent chance that this summer will be one of the hottest 20 per cent on record for the country. #ClimateChange#Spain
Climate normals and the Arctic is this week's topic for the Alaska and Arctic Climate Newsletter. What does "normal" even mean in a rapidly warming environment? Well, that probably depends on your perspective. #Arctic#ClimateChange @Climatologist49
As a physician, I can attest that masks protect against many threats to our health, including pollution, wildfire smoke, infectious diseases, and allergens. All of us, and especially disabled and immunocompromised folks, need to be able to wear masks freely in public spaces. Please sign and share this petition against the North Carolina mask ban. #COVID#MaskUp#ClimateChange#disabilityhttps://chng.it/C7XNnpx9gL
Climate Change poses a significant threat to individuals with brain conditions.
Extreme temperatures, poor sleep due to warmer nights, and adverse weather events can worsen neurological and psychiatric disorders, increasing hospitalizations and mortality.

Breaking up with oil and gas was always going to be difficult for the owner of the world’s largest sovereign wealth fund—valued at $1.4 trillion. North Sea oil and gas, which accounts for 14% of Norway’s GDP, 40% of exports, and employs 7% of its workforce, has made the country one of the richest in the world, by GDP per capita.

"power plants do annual maintenance in April. That takes thousands of megawatts offline, making it harder for the grid to handle a burst of heat..."
It wasn't particularly hot in Texas in April, but the electricity grid was strained.. "Thanks to crypto mining, data centers, electric vehicles, manufacturing, and more people moving to the state," plus global warming.
Hm, maybe not too surprising, but first time I'm hearing about "CEO ghostwriting".
"Over the past year, I’ve contributed a half dozen more stories to Forbes.com. Not under my own name, but as a ghost writer for a couple different CEOs. For that work I was paid—no exaggeration— TEN times what Forbes ever paid me to write for its site [...]"
I sure do love climate change, especially the kind that makes my city feel like a microwave oven.
I wish my folks didn't have the worst case of Stockholm Syndrome ever recorded. I wonder what it is about Karachi that makes people romanticize all the abuse? Will this convince them to move to Islamabad? Probably not—that place is too "dull," not enough phone snatchers. #pakistan#karachi#climatechange
Toxic PFAS “forever chemicals” are ubiquitous in the Great Lakes basin’s air, rain, atmosphere and water, new peer-reviewed research shows.
The basin holds nearly 95% of the nation’s freshwater.
PFAS are a class of 15,000 chemicals that are linked to cancer, kidney disease, birth defects, decreased immunity, liver problems and a range of other serious diseases. #ClimateChange
Arctic 12-month running temperatures as the difference from the 1951-80 average, updated through April 2024. The 10-year smoothed average shows the long term trend, the 2-year average captures some of the short term variability. OISSTv2.1 courtesy of NOAA/PSL/ESRL

Southern Florida once again has "EXTREME" Heat Risk today 5/18/24.
Extreme - This level of rare and/or long-duration extreme heat with little to no overnight relief affects anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration. Impacts likely in most health systems, heat-sensitive industries and infrastructure.
