Worked with an #acting#coaching client on two things just now. 1: playing with status in a scene and how that transforms the deliveries and relationships, 2: using the words as toys to explore what you're doing and finding unusual or at least not obvious/casual rhythms, pronunciations and emphasis. So cool finding new stuff we didn't know was there.
Just worked with an #acting#coaching client on role they're auditioning for soon. Finding who the characters are, how they move and react to the world was fun. Honing in on how they do what they do, including connect to the #characters in the #scenes helps build fun options.
Actors: If you’re an American or have American friends/colleagues and family, encourage them (and I encourage you) to contact your representative and both your senators and tell them your needs in regards to the No Fakes Act: https://www.congress.gov/event/118th-congress/senate-event/335702
Worked with an #acting#coaching client on different #styles/tones. Different shows, time periods, directors, writers and more vastly change some of the how we do what we do in a scene, and experimenting with that in general and adapting our work to it in specific is valuable. It was so cool discovering how doing some material in two different director's styles shifted things.
Worked with an #acting#coaching client on a scene shooting soon, and among other things we played with knowing what your character is after while simultaneously not believing the other characters are being totally honest with what they're saying. Cool how perception and intention can interplay.
Worked with an #acting#coaching client on material they're going to play, and explored how it can go viscerally. How much space you take up and how hard you metaphorically push the other characters can transform how you do what you do.
Pre-production is underway for our upcoming short, a very modernised adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's "A Pursuit Race," and we're thrilled to be working with the ever-amazing Brittany Gallasch! We can't wait to show you what we have in store ✨
Just worked with an #acting#coaching client on a role they're playing soon, and working lines to see what can be "said" beyond, within, in addition, with and through the words as written. Cool clarifying specific possibilities for how those moments go. Seeing them finding the performance and discovering was great.
Worked with an #acting#coaching client on a role they’re going to play, and had them go too far, too broad with it. When we scaled it back down we found a whole new version it can be played with if they and the director want to. Nice to discover stuff.
I just remembered that I once acted in a play as "The Sleepy One" prior to my IH diagnosis. I was literally selected to nod off in the play, surrounded by pillow mountain, because every morning when everyone was asked about how they were doing, I replied "tired and sleepy" without a fault.
Worked with an #acting#coaching client on material for a callback (that I am very proud of them for getting), and got into the balance of doing what the audition was and still evolving and being ready to take notes and redirects. Nice to see them still finding new discoveries and deepening what they've already done too.
Coached an actor on a self-tape, and watching them find the character, and hone in on the how and what of them, was really cool. The specifics shined brighter and brighter on each take.
Worked with an #acting#coaching client on how different roles take up different amounts of space and how we maintain safety and control as an actor even as our characters can lose their self-control. Cool to see them pivot the objectives they pursued and played to change the space they take up.
Just worked with an #acting#coaching client on what broadly is their process working with new material, like what sequence to generally follow and what areas to address. Then had them do a piece with the direction to "have fun doing something unexpected" a couple times and found some really inspired new ways to do the material.
Worked with an #acting#coaching client on the intersection of concentration and finding your character in the other actor, from how they affect you. Facing uncertainty with courage is often a key piece of work that works well.
Considering trying to get into #acting. We live near a playhouse so gonna see if I can just volunteer there on the weekends doing set work or something to test the waters and get some #advice from the #actors.
The thing is that I discovered that I enjoy acting while performing in a "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves" parody play waaay back in 8th grade but my low self-esteem issues led me away from pursuing it after being mocked by some assho… uh, other kids. I've always regretted letting them get in my head.
Now, playing #DnD has rekindled my interest, plus I've gotten much better at not giving a shit about others' opinions. 😂
