Today, 3/14, is Pi Day in the US, where the date corresponds to the first three significant digits of the eponymous mathematical constant. Europeans find this baffling, since there, under the metric system, Pi is exactly 10.

@skykiss Americans MADE this monster. Further, even if you get rid of him, another will step into his place because Trump isn't the problem. He's a symptom, and merely getting rid of him is just putting a children's bandaid on a sucking chest wound.

They need to fix the actual problem instead of letting them get distracted by a symptom.

I hated Trump long before reality TV was even a concept. He was a "thing" in the late '70s and early '80s. A vile, repulsive thing. And he was lionized.

The rot in American culture is very old, and very deep-set.

@snack @skykiss I'm not American either, but there was a phase in the rapacious '80s when his style of predatory and dishonest business practice was held up as a sterling example of capitalism at its finest.

I'm an anarchist-lite precisely because I had his shit rubbed in my face for almost two decades before he got desperate and went into "reality" TV to keep up the myth of his wealth.

@aral One of the interesting things I see in this is how when Hamas does something, it's "Gazans" who have ire directed at them by the Israelis, but if you dare suggest that the IDF is doing a genocide, you're against "Israelis" (or in some circles "Jews").

The double standard there intrigues me.

@humantransit Battery-electric buses have been in constant use here for over a decade and in that time have come to dominate the bus lanes. There are very, very, very few diesel buses left in operation; they get retired in large numbers annually and replaced by electrics.

It's hilarious listening to people claim the technology isn't there yet.

Imagine if all the collective money spent of “self driving cars” had been spent on public transport.

As in, not cars - which are ultimately bad solutions for most of the world - but punctual and pervasive clean-energy public trams, trains, and buses.

It’d have cost less and been far more useful for far more people. Including non-drivers. And actually be here. Today. Working.

@mattwilcox @cenobyte @Shanmonster Same here. We never even really had a massive COVID problem here, and haven't had any real hint of the "current" "endemic" COVID ... but at least half of people in public transit mask up anyway, despite the requirement being lifted almost a year and a half ago.

Some people just actually care for others, apparently.
