Obscure screw added so appliance cannot be disassembled (lemmy.world)

Basic blender went bad (motor ran but spindle wasn’t rotating). I wanted to disassemble to see if it could be repaired. Three of the four screws were Phillips head. I had to cut the casing open in order to discover why I couldn’t unscrew the fourth. It was a slotted spanner.

Just a basic security screw. It’s so kids (and people who don’t know enough about repairing appliances to know about security screws) don’t disassemble the dangerous machine.

‘My whole library is wiped out’: what it means to own movies and TV in the age of streaming services (www.theguardian.com)

*What rights do you have to the digital movies, TV shows and music you buy online? That question was on the minds of Telstra TV Box Office customers this month after the company announced it would shut down the service in June. Customers were told that unless they moved over to another service, Fetch, they would no longer be...

Iew, using the word normies seriously makes you sound like an incel.

The trick with garlic is to just bury it everywhere in your garden where there’s space, no need for a vegetable garden. The leaves take minimal space and digging them back up only requires making a small hole, plus they apparently keep some pests away.

The fact they call vaccination an “important decision” as if it’s choosing chemo or so is just so stupid.

Tbf getting rid of 99% of the cows would be a huge win.

I don’t know which company I would trust developing my brain implant, but it sure as hell isn’t Tesla. Their software and hardware history is less than stellar.

Also seems like some gametophytes in there.

The problem of course with these kind of schemes is illegal income. Plenty of people who drive expensive bmw’s while having only a basic income on paper.

Maybe they do both, and then choose whichever is higher (car-based or income-based fine).

Technology and science, please. Open a history book…

Why is this (I presume scientific) paper written like an opinion piece?

What will it take to make our undergraduate and graduate researchers, our postdoctoral interview candidates, our faculty and our academic leaders reflect local and global populations — and why should we bother?

Tss, the real sovcits know you have to write in fuchsia to unlock the secret bureaucracy magic.

How is his thought disturbing? Humans were never meant to have this much fat, so feeling disturbed by this unnatural figure is quite reasonable.

Leds bulbs are definitely made to be break in a few 1000 hours. They push them to their max specs so they don’t last as long. But this way of course they sell more, no one wants to sell a bulb that lasts 10 years of continuous use.

Women can also be assholes, deal with it. And don’t gatekeep threads like this, it’s annoying and stupid.

At the end of the street I went left instead of my usual right, my cat was going crazy meowing so loud and urgent.

No human, you will get lost!

7.2 million is literally pocket change for these people, they don’t even know it’s gone. Politicians are so cheap. I heard somewhere you can have a governor for like 50k. Maybe we should do a bribe lobby crowdfunding?

Cars are like 5% of co2 emmisions. Until they ban dirty ship oil and curb industry emissions (world wide), nothing will change.
