silence7,

I find it really hard to believe that the Supreme Court will allow that

silence7,

I’m sure it can be done in a booth with a plexiglass barrier between them.

silence7,

The thing that really bothers me is the way stochastic terrorists hide behind Brandenburg vs Ohio, from 1969. Back in the 1960s, you didn’t get this kind of thing in front of a huge audience by default, whereas now, social media algorithms selectively show inflammatory speech to the audience most likely to act on it. This means that inflammatory speech which wouldn’t have caused violence in the 1960s is incredibly likely to do so now.

These wildfires never went out — they just moved underground | Canada’s record wildfire season keeps burning through the winter (wapo.st)

“Climate warming and drying is leading to these very large fire years, which then facilitate this overwintering fire activity,” Jennifer Baltzer, a biology professor at Wilfrid Laurier University, told the Toronto Star.

By leveraging their hate into a position on a state board and inspiring people to kill classmates

There are a bunch of Supreme Court rulings which basically said the KKK can advocate for violence in general so long as they don’t lay out specifics. That’s what these folks hide behind

The biggie is Brandenburg vs Ohio, from 1969

Where that really falls down is when you have social media algorithms selectively showing inflammatory speech to the audience most likely to act on it. This means that inflammatory speech which wouldn’t have caused violence in the 1960s is incredibly likely to do so now.

silence7,

This is more of an “if we win, we will toss you in jail or kill you” kind of promise

You could literally turn the unit around, but they’re not designed for that. The controls would be outdoors instead of indoors.

silence7,

What you’re missing is that heat pumps move heat, instead of just turning electricity into heat. How efficient they are at this varies by heat pump, and by outside temperature. During extreme cold, you might really spend more, but the rest of the year, you end up moving 3-5 kwh of heat for each kwh you consume, so your overall bill over the course of a year ends up being lower.

Given the large number of gas export terminals already approved and under construction, I’m expecting US gas prices to at least double over the next few years, bringing them up to match the international LNG price.
