When realistic CGI first came into its own in the 90s, we feared it would be used deceptively

But the threat was less than we thought. It was never that successful. Rather, it turned into an excuse for people to not believe their eyes.

This cut two ways:

  1. A person who didn't want to believe what they were seeing would say it was CGI.

  2. A leader who didn't want their followers to believe what they were seeing would say it was CGI.

AI is going to be much the same circus. Another excuse.

I'm redoubling my efforts to escape the US for my own mental health, regardless of who wins in 2024 or any other development. It's become clear to me that I can't recover in a country that is collapsing around me.

I already have a friend in northwest Germany who is willing to help me get settled with EU residency. Once I have residency I may choose another country. But the more money I have the sooner I can get started.

The Israeli treatment of the Palestinian people is at last getting the attention it deserves. And I think a huge part of that is the weakening grip of the Evangelical churches in the US. This is probably the most important factor in our present moment because it created a deep division when the churches began shrinking and becoming more radical the more people they drove away.

They managed to partly implement the agenda of theocracy in part of the country before hitting resistance with the rest of it. They're angry that they no longer have a mandate. They are now in an apocalyptic mindset. I urge you to be extremely careful around anyone you know who is extremely fanatical. They may become a danger to themselves or others because they're likely to have mental breaks. My grandmother had one last year, thought the world was ending and vanished for a week.

She's probably had mild bipolar symptoms for years but all the apocalyptic fervor in her church had her go fully manic and properly delusional. We found her after she broke into some random person's home in a complete disoriented state. Thankfully she was unharmed and taken to the hospital rather than to prison. She had this wild delusional system that China was about to attack Charleston (the nearest city to her) and was heading to my mother's cabin in North Carolina which she had a key to.

How to recreate the look of pre-1930 photography, a thread!

Part 1: the film. You should ideally shoot in medium format film. 120 is readily available. You should choose an orthochromatic film such as Ilford Ortho or Ferrania P30 (which is advertised as a panchromatic film but the color curves say otherwise).

Once I actually have a full armor harness, I'm going to get some custom dies made to look kind of like a medieval coin but with my own design. Then I'll hand-mint a small run of these in .999 silver and when I need someone to help me into my armor, I'll give them an ounce of silver for their trouble.

I will gladly work with people of a variety of ideological leanings if they understand the vital and immediate need for antifascism and a broad application of justice across society.

But I will reserve my right to be critical of bad takes and keep healthy boundaries on what I'm willing to do and who I'm willing to support. And I'm not going to get along well with someone who doesn't know the difference between laws and justice.

Justice, to me, is a transcendent principle that has nothing to do with law and order. I cringe when I hear our courts and prisons referred to as a "justice system." It is no such thing.

And it's completely targeting those vans in particular too. You can import any number of other tiny classic cars into Oregon that have the same or worse crash performance. So the ban on kei trucks is literally only because they're affordable to the average person unlike these oversized American bullshit grinders that are all the new car dealerships sell any more.

I think the plan is to keep us plebs car dependent by nerfing public transit while forcing us to rent or lease them. Just like they do with our homes, and our phones, and everything else.
