I'm looking to hire someone to do some slightly technical illustrations for How Comics Were Made. There are a few pieces of equipment and processes that have no great photographic or illustrative elements out there, but I can provide reference images and rough drawings. If you’re interested, send me links to your work? I’m not looking for blueprint-style perfection, but something that conveys the meaning and is accurate.

Am I the asshole?

Friend group is saying “install WhatsApp and be in our group chat!”
I don’t want to give Facebook Co my phone number and complete knowledge of my social circle.
OTOH, I already have Instagram installed on this phone, so I’m already in for a penny.
I think I also just missed out on knowing about a get together for lack of WhatsApp, but also: they all have my phone number.

Am I “Old Man Shakes Fist At Cloud,” or is there any sense in this?

Thin is boring.

Take a year off hardware, . You just launched an AR headset and killed off a billion dollar a year car. You're all over the map.

New pencils are nice but what creative people REALLY need is for you to sort out your software story. Fix what's broken. Innovate on your apps and interoperability between them. Figure out how to use all that power in the iPad besides just "it's a big phone".

Step by step you are ship-of-theseus forgetting what makes you a great company.

Despite being middle aged, here’s a thing I have to think about every time I encounter it:

Noon is 12:00PM, not 12:00AM.

Why do AM and PM start an hour before the cycle loops? Noon should be 12AM. Midnight should be 12PM. Whose idea was this?

Book-Publishing Fun-Fact.

In 2012 I self-published a 30-page , DELILAH DIRK AND THE SEEDS OF GOOD FORTUNE.

11 years later, in 2023, despite the default pay-what-you-want price being $0.00 and only being available in (DRM-free) PDF format from one obscure store, it made up 5% of my "royalties."

It's not the complete picture, but take from that what you will.

The shocker for me was that there are artists spending 8 hours to pencil a page and 7 to ink them. 😳😳😳

I would love to spend that much time on a page.

Follow-up:
I usually pencil 2 pages in 6-7 hours.
I usually ink 2 pages in 6-7 hours.

When you factor in roughs / thumbnails, I'm not sure how long pencilling actually takes, but I would be surprised if it bumped "pencilling" up past 6hours/page.

Say what you will about Adobe and their practices, which I don't love, but…
Lightroom competitor CAPTURE ONE offered a free limited version of their software, but I guess they don't want to support it anymore, so they've disabled it. It quits upon launch.
At least you can still install, say, Photoshop CS6 and it will run (I assume. I haven't checked).

Everyone please give me a round of applause.

I've been testing out a livestreaming setup, and was frustrated that YouTube was showing a max resolution of 720p, when I was CERTAIN I was outputting 1080p.
I assumed the problem was some obscure backstage shenanigans.
Turns out, I overlooked a simple pulldown menu in OBS.
