wish i could tell iCloud private relay to only enable for public wifi networks, which is the only place i really feel the need for it

@exchgr you can disable it on a per-network basis: Settings > Wi-Fi > Netowk, then scroll to “Limit IP Address Tracking”

It doesn’t cover public v private networks, but at least your home network(s) can be excluded.

Hello friends — mini-me was forgetful and took her anti-seizure medication too late and she just had a very long and powerful epileptic seizure. She is awake and confused and on the way to the hospital.

Please make sure your loved ones take their medication on time as directed by their doctors even if they yell at you to leave them alone.

I have an always-on PC w/ several terabytes of media (photos, digitized home movies, etc.) and archived projects, looking for encrypted, off-site backups. Hot storage not required, but storage needs to be reliable.

@grmpyprogrammer the ol’ “back up to a local Time Machine drive that just so happens to be mounted on the media server” approach, or BB+Time Machine for a single computer?

I’d love to add another big-ass drive to the tower to use as a target for device backups, but I’m concerned about pushing my luck.

project idea: Create an RSS feed just for you. Identify multiple data sources, Filter them by some criteria, then merge them into an RSS feed that only you read.

@awoodsnet I mean, isn’t that essentially an RSS reader with some extra filtering?

I collect all my feeds in @NetNewsWire, and have them categorized (News, Entertainment, etc.). If I want to, I can go to “All Unread” and see everything.

Honestly, if I could filter out keywords on a per-feed level (example: I don’t care about sports, but still want the local campus news), it’d be damn-near perfect.

What would you do with this aggregated feed? Load it into a reader?

I have really been enjoying this resurgence of . A couple times a week lately I’ve been seeing someone promote their newsletters or have their comics get boosted here, and I “share” the link with @NetNewsWire to subscribe.

Feeds are synced via iCloud, so I can read them whenever I have an idle moment on my phone, tablet, or laptop.

Am I the only person in the world who keeps losing floor lamps to the weight plate in their base disintegrating after 5-8 years? I feel like I'm losing my mind.

@linc I’ve had that happen to two lamps, both of which were pretty simple, brushed-nickel w/white shade floor lamps from Target.

A shade got brittle and crumbled on a third lamp (different manufacturer), but at least that’s easier to replace.

Idea for a super-senior (i.e., staff, principal, etc.) engineer “coding” exercise… instead of asking them to write code, give them a problem and ask them to write a technical “one-pager” describing the project, rationale, and high-level implementation details.

@Crell @ramsey I had a similar technical interview for my current role. Me, two Principals, a set of requirements, and about 30min to ask questions, talk through how I might approach it, then field questions about my decisions.

I’ve also been on the hiring side of the same exercise, and every time I have to remind myself that the candidate will arrive at a different solution than I had.

Cut my dog’s nails for the first time. She’s 15yo and we’ve gone this long getting them cut at a vet or groomer, but something’s going around.

Unfortunately I got a little close on one nail, so tonight she gets an old Paw Patrol sock and gauze 😥

My husband got Covid and we followed the CDC guidance (2 completely negative tests 24-hours apart) before un-quarantining. I had symptoms 36 hours later. 🫠 Maybe be a little skeptical of that one, is all I'm saying.
