I've admittedly been having the time of my life with Linux
I stopped using Linux roughly when Windows 8 came out and suddenly all desktop environments were chasing that tablet computing trend (???) instead of treating PCs as, y'know, PCs, but recently got back in with a spare Thinkpad T480 I bought off eBay for cheap.
I have to say, Zorin OS is amazing and incredible. Would recommend.
Trying to be a grown-up with his own house and having to deal with PKU has it's challenges - like trying to find new, inventive ways to have low protein food and have my exchanges all in one go, three times a day, every single day.
This is going to be a thread 🧵 - feel free to read more below 👇
Spotify officially demonetises all tracks with under 1,000 streams
This is just an insanely bone-headed move that is so pointless.
These artists don't even get paid that much money, and yet Spotify wants to cut off their revenue.
I'm done with Spotify. In fact, I think I'm flat-out done with music streaming services. All of them are exploitative. back to buying digital albums for me.
We've been getting a little bit of growth (especially for such a niche community!) so I figured I might as well shout out everyone who has made it here so far, so you can say hi! A 🧵
The one and only @pcublogue - he has been with me with the start. Super friendly and incredibly awesome dude! His blogs are definitely worth a read:
As you may know, I’ve been talking about @poconnor and her book “Living with PKU” (buy here: https://pigpen.page/books/) because half of the profits go to the NSPKU charity during June and July.
But it might help to explain what the NSPKU does, so here goes (may be a 🧵):
First of all, when parents have a newborn child, their child has a newborn blood spot test after the baby is 5 days old.
For folks who have used PKU Calculator - I've been thinking about winding down the diet management side of the app for quite some time now, as well as winding down iOS and Android apps.
I'm super proud of said apps, but the truth of the matter is that these apps do take a long time out of my life to maintain. If I had a team of developers and testers, then this would be easy. That, and Apple/Google bureaucracy has killed the fun for me.
I'm going to be sharing some photo album of the slides at the ESPKU event. This will be a thread! 🧵
These slides are all on Google Photos, but if you want the photos on another service (like Outlook or iCloud), let me know and I can try and get them shared.
The past few days I’ve been taking creatine powder. From what I can see on YouTube, it’s used by gym enthusiasts to help them lift more weights and recover quickly.
As I’ve been feeling quite exhausted from walking a lot, I’ve been trying creatine, and I can tell you I’ve been feeling far less sore on the daily! But the weirdest thing is that I realised last night I was having half the dose as I need two teaspoons rather than one, but I’m still noticing the effects!
It’s a PWA (a web-app) that is totally free, but the ui/ux is absolutely incredible. Works on all platforms you can think of (no settings are synced yet).
Very proud of myself for taking in a whole bunch of junk from my old room in my parents house and going through the process of junking electronics, selling it, and giving it away.
I have two whole bags of electronics, I’m going to see what CeX takes in, and then either give the rest away on trash nothing or just junk it.
It's honestly baffling how much having low phenylalanine has changed my life!
I used to have so much anxiety, be really indecisive about things, get incredibly frustrated when things didn't go the way I wanted to (and lets face it, when does life ever go exactly the way you want it?). And honestly, I was quite miserable to be around.
I got very serious about sorting out my knowledge about exchanges in my thirties, and it has made such a difference!!
People who are over the age of 30 and play video games on Xbox or PlayStation, when was the last time you played games on your games console, and if you can, please elaborate which console and when?
I’m trying to see how many of said folks are actively playing these consoles. I fully expect younger generations to play on said devices, but I do wonder how the over 30s get along with time management, cost of games, cost of living etc how they are managing…
