A few years ago we went up to Northland and took a walk through the forest to see Tane Mahuta. There was no sound from any birds. Speaking to the DOC guy in the car park, he told us the problem was pests.

I have just come back from a walk through an incredible small reserve near our house. The sound of birds here was almost deafening. They were mostly Tui, but I did spot some Fantails.

It is nice too no the eradication program is working.

@cspray Oh, and to your specific example, if phpstan is anything to go by, it seems php stores non associative arrays internally AS associative, it’s just that the keys are indexes (0, 1, 2…) so that’s the “expects array <int, string >, was provided array<string >” malarkey.

In phpstan you can go either array<int, string> (or array<array-key, string>), or, more simply string[] - but the latter form avoids those sorts of complaints. Might be worth having a looksee if psalm is similar.

@dave That's the key thing - I find, by the time I've weaved in and out avoiding people coughing, sneezing, or generally being inconsiderate, it's a VERY short time before I'm utterly burnt out :/

Basically, get your archived feeds (mastodon export), particularly likes.json and outbox.json, and this will get everyone you've interacted with:

likes.json:
jq '.orderedItems ' likes.json | grep 'mastodon.nz' | cut -d '/' -f 5 | sort -u

outbox.json:
jq '.orderedItems[].cc' outbox.json | grep mastodon.nz | cut -d '/' -f 5 | cut -d '"' -f 1 | sort -u

@jonoabroad Oh, I don't mean "vs other BigCorp", I kinda mean avoiding all of those giants as much as possible. You're right, they're all as awful as each other.

Smaller stuff, and open source, is often much MUCH better (in my experience).

But yeah, random failures with no preceding events? UGH. HATE debugging that kind of horror. Thank god for version control, that at least hints, sometimes, as to what might be the issue. But, when it's buried in someone else's tech stack/platform? ARGH.
