Are there any spartan compatible #gemini clients that can be directly installed from the App Store for iOS? My search results are pulling up a lot of crypto nonsense. I used to like Elaho, but I hear it is deprecated now.

Looks like the Dillo web browser project is back. I need to try out the plugin. https://dillo-browser.github.io/index.html

OK this is incredibly short notice but I got Covid and I cannot run the frozen gnome 50K on Saturday. The organizers are OK with me transferring the bib to somebody else as long as they sign the waiver. Let me know if you’re interested, first come first serve. #chicago #ultrarunning #running

TIL there is a port of Dillo called Dillo+ that supports #gemini https://github.com/crossbowerbt/dillo-plus

Mildly entertaining minimalist OS with some old-school vibes. Fits on a floppy disc https://kolibrios.org/en/index.htm

Finished #running the Des Plaines River 50 mile trail race. Lots of rain, wind, and some rookie mistakes in the beginning. Ended up finishing strong and had a blast. Changing shoes and socks at the half way point was great advice. Thanks everyone. #ultrarunning

“ UI is communication, and UI designers have decided that mumbling is cool.” Probably the best comment I’ve ever read on HN in my life.

@strypey I’m having trouble finding it but it would be somewhere in here https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37864867

Trying to find an old late 90s website where you would build a 3-D organism thing. Some of them had wheels and goofy trumpet horns for mouths. Your organism would live in a simulation that was running 24 hours a day. You didn’t control the organism but you could check in on it. It was sponsored by a university I think. Had really funny graphics. Does anyone remember this? #retrocomputing #oldinternet

There is yet again a discussion of the #Gemini protocol on hacker news. I encourage Gemini proponents to take part in productive discussions. There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding about Gemini on hacker news. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36104533

I just found something slightly disturbing on #ebay

People are selling CDs of #foss / #OpenSource software such as #FreeCAD, #Blender and #Audacity AND PEOPLE ARE BUYING IT!

Maybe it just is me but this seems wrong… you can get all of this software for free and yet people are profiting off of this by buying outdated software on a 40 cent piece of plastic…

Does anyone know if this violates eBay’s #tos as they technically are selling a “physical product”…

rickcarlino,
@rickcarlino@mastodon.social avatar

@MIfoodie People did this in the late 90s and early 2000s back when downloading stuff over a modem took very large amounts of times. I’m going off of very vague memories here but I believe back then it was considered legal (citation needed). People would bundle stuff or add printed manuals etc..

Anyone well-versed enough in cardiology or science to tell me if this distribution is good, OK, or bad? I went for a 5K run and this was my heart rate over the 29 minutes or so. In case it matters, my resting heart rate is in the low-to-mid-50s.

rickcarlino,
@rickcarlino@mastodon.social avatar

@cra1g I am definitely not a healthcare provider, but I do run a lot and I would say that being in zone 5 for the entirety of a 5K is extremely normal since a 5K is less about energy conservation. You can set heart rate alerts in garmin if you felt uncomfortable at zone 5. I will do that for myself sometimes on longer distances so that I don’t get overly motivated and ruin my pace later on in the run. If I was running a 5K distance I would want to be in zone five for the entire time though.

A #gemini fediverse client I found on station: https://github.com/dimkr/tootik

@rickcarlino@mastodon.social avatar

Are there any client for iOS that do push notifications when your gempub feeds update? Or maybe if that is antithetical to Gemini hmmm

rickcarlino,
@rickcarlino@mastodon.social avatar

I should give more context on why I want this: I’ve been contemplating the idea of a private messaging app that uses the Gemini protocol where you can see unread messages via gempub. If I had a Gemini protocol browser that gave push notifications when pubs update, it could be pretty useful. On the flipside, maybe people using Gemini clients are using them because they like the fact that they don’t get push notifications like on the web. 🤔
