The boys and I picked up my BART number plate at Lake Merritt yesterday. These were taken from the old BART cars that were recently retired from service.

I'm glad @foo warned me it would be dirty. The back still needs a couple passes with a wire brush, but it's still glorious ๐Ÿ˜

"We went to a train museum!"

"The boys must have LOVED that! But what did you do for you?"

Tell me you don't know me, without telling me you don't know me ๐Ÿ˜… ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿš‚

@foo Picked mine up today, I got #1726! And yeah, it's dirty, I'll have to give it a good dusting off before I put it anywhere.

Most of my work is so detatched from hands-on development these days I kinda feel like I'm goofing off at work when I spend all morning reviewing PRs on GitHub ๐Ÿ˜‚

But this IS part of my job. No goofing! It just happens to be fun and particularly satisfying!

Legacy BART Train Number Plates are back in stock ๐Ÿ˜

So I finally ordered one!

https://www.railgoods.com/bart-legacy-train-number-plate.html

Along with the new BRIO-compatible legacy fleet trio of trains, to go with the rest of our collection

@foo Oh no! Those did go quickly ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

It seems they restock as the continue pulling them off the old trains, so here's hoping for the future.

Regular reminder that Apple makes interacting with their products hell if you don't own an Apple device (we got a free Apple TV subscription through a promotion, but mostly it's just been infuriating to try to use).

It makes total sense (securing data is critical) but it's still funny to me that several of the key players in the Quantum Safe space are also the ones building the #quantum computers ๐Ÿ˜ #OSSummit

@pleia2@floss.social avatar

Some have rolled their eyes at the "paranoid" requirement from the community of in-person gpg key signing as a step to become a Debian developer, and it's often been a real barrier.

But I'm reminded of it at the keynote today as the Foundation's Jim Zemlin talks about the xz vulnerability and identity verification of developers.

It was never paranoia. It doesn't solve everything, and people can still be dishonest, but it was never excessive paranoia.

The @chaoss project is one that I've loosely followed, but haven't been able to carve out time for (yet!) so I'm really glad I could spend the afternoon with them here at

Lots of good discussions and project updates, along with seeing several folks who I've enjoyed catching up with ๐Ÿค—

On April 7, 1964 the IBM System/360 was launched, 60 years ago today!

On Thursday I was able to head up to the Poughkeepsie, NY site where much of the work and ultimately the launch actually happened.

The IBM Corporate Archives put together some great displays for the internal event, including pulling out the scale models, and then I got to finally meet several folks in person as we celebrated the to the next 60 years of this legendary architecture ๐Ÿคฉ

If I install a text-based #Matrix client to run under screen, am I doing it wrong? ๐Ÿ˜…

Truthfully, I'm still clinging to IRC.

The fragmentation between all the graphical clients on Slack, Mattermost, and Discord means I don't regularly log into any of them, and I don't know what do do about this.

Mainframe Skills Council!

https://newsroom.ibm.com/IBM-Mainframe-Skills

This is kind of a big deal, and the idea has been floating around for a while.

As much as we joke, #mainframes are still all over the place, and though we're doing everything we can to make using them easier to use (and succeeding!) they operate quite a bit differently than how many folks are used to working with a server. Making sure the opportunity to skill up is made easy and discoverable is incredibly important.

"Sure, Lyz."

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Spent 2 days mindlessly adjusting the wire on my mouse because I thought being tangled up somewhere was the reason it was being weird and jumpy, because that usually helps.

It finally dawned on me that it might just be dying.

Another mouse works fine.

But I liked my old mouse, it was just a basic Microsoft X802382 but it was perfect, I don't want to go mouse shopping ๐Ÿ˜ญ ๐Ÿ–ฑ๏ธ

I love libraries.

But I also love hoarding books that are mine, precious.

And I have the disposable income that I want to funnel towards supporting human authors.

So sometimes I test drive books at the library by checking them out, and then buy them from my local bookshop halfway through.

One of my favorite things about working in the #mainframe community is the wealth of experience and different perspectives to things that us Linux distributed folks have taken for granted for...ever.

Want using man pages to be made easier? Lionel Dyck used Charm's gum tooling to do just that. Behold, Mantastic! โœจ๐Ÿ“š

His examples are on a shell on z/OS, but I played with it on Debian too.
