Who is your longest standing friend in FLOSS?
I’ve been involved in Free and Open Source Software for a while now. I think it might be @darkling who I have known the longest, initially via our local Linux User Group. Over 20 years. Time flies in Free Software. #FreeSoftwareFriends#FreeSoftware#OpenSource
@popey That's a tough one, but I'd probably say @waltman who I met through the Philadelphia Linux Users Group in 2002 or so, and all kinds of places since then.
Here's us, both on the right, at a Linux presentation in 2006! 🐧
Regular reminder that Apple makes interacting with their products hell if you don't own an Apple device (we got a free Apple TV subscription through a promotion, but mostly it's just been infuriating to try to use).
@LinuxAndYarn I was trying to log onto it on my Roku, and discovered my account was "inactive" (in spite of just adding it to the family account last month). So I tried chat to resolve it, they redirected me to phone support... this story is a developing one 😅
"I didn't even know I could see BART trains going by from the family room when we bought the house!"
"Sure, Lyz."
😂😂😂
But honestly, I knew the BART station was just a couple blocks away and that was plenty. If I had known about the view I would have been a total wreck during negotiations 😅
PSA: Headaches and migraines aren't the same thing. No, not even if they're bad headaches.
And since I sometimes get migraine auras, oftentimes the head pain isn't even the first sign of a migraine for me! The visual disturbance (they manifest as blind spots for me), losing simple words, and nausea usually are.
I'm grateful to people who try to help by sharing their headache solutions, because I know their heart is in the right place, but I'm battling a whole different dragon over here 😕
@foo I've had migraines forever, but aura developed when I was almost 30. The first time was a terrifying experience, but thankfully I was home. I later learned my father had them too.
Still, it's always quite alarming because I forget what it's like. I'll just be sitting there and chunks of vision start disappearing, and so I blink or stand up or look at something else, as I have minor panic before I realize, and run to take my migraine medicine so I have a chance of putting a stop to it 😱
I ordered a VisionFive 2 RISC-V SBC on a whim, with my excuse being an upcoming talk I'm giving about non-x86 architectures at the @socallinuxexpo next month. It'll be added to my little collection that includes a few Raspberry Pi models (arm) and an old Sun Ultra 10 (sparc64).
Shout out to my #RISCV family! Am I about to have some fun, or did I make a silly mistake?
@daridrea I'm learning the bumpy way why it's not a crown-snatcher yet. Installation even of Ubuntu is quite involved, and the limitations are quite... limiting. This is fun, but not the dead simple install rpi users are used to.
I'm gonna geek out about #mainframes 😉 but mostly talk about how we brought a bunch of #Linux distributions together to collaborate on the platform #AllThingsOpen
@christopherd He has a couple but has grown bored of them, apparently he has refined his skills and now he's starting to get curious about how things work 😅 that's my boy.
