Hi all. Hoping there are some users out there that can help me out. I'm using an old computer, not the one I mentioned in my previous posts, but a different one, and isn't speaking. I originally installed Mate, but Orca was freezing a lot, so I switched my to . It seemed like a lot of things were inaccessible, though, so I decided to try . I installed Gnome, chose GDM as the display manager, and restarted the computer. Now, Orca works on the login screen but nowhere else. It seems to be running, and when I run "orca --replace" in the terminal, I get an error about something only working with X11. I've been able to tell that by scanning the screen with on my . I need to get Orca up and running again so I can use my computer. What's the best way to do this, preferably without sighted help, as my mom and stepdad aren't good with .

@RareBird_15 you should be able to pick the type of session on GDM and there should be one called Gnome on Xorg or Gnome on X11 @mastoblind @main

@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

Last night I was ready to start a new RPG. It’s been quite a while so I was in the perfect mood for it.
And since I watched that Ys video I really wanted to play an entry into the series.
Since I can’t restart 8 on PS5 yet, I decided to go with Memories of Celceta.
I only played the intro back in the day on Vita. Played for about 3 hours last night and I’m really enjoying it. Can’t wait to go home late tonight and play some more.

    My constant experience with Python over the last ~16 years is I start writing it and it's like, wow, this is so easy, this is great! And then I run my program, and invariably it fails with an inscrutable error/exception 4 layers deep in someone else's library, code I know nothing about— in this case, a wav file library claiming that the number 960 is "not a valid shape"— and I realize that maybe I actually hate Python

    Apple says "your package has been delivered!" but what they mean is that UPS dropped it off at the nearest UPS access point which is a 30 minute walk from my place.

    I could've just gone to the Apple store at this rate, why even get it delivered. Also UPS is the worst fucking carrier here, I feel like only US-centric companies use it.

    pitbuster,
    @pitbuster@lile.cl avatar

    @fasterthanlime if it makes you feel a little bit better, UPS is shit around the world. I prefer a hundred times that stuff gets send through USPS, because then it is handled by the local mail company instead of them and their abusive fees.

    ✨ just learned this one-liner:

    if you have a .env file (KEY=VALUE pairs, not prefixed by 'export' so you can't just source it) and you need to "apply it" to your current shell in a pinch, you can just:

    export $(xargs < .env)

    pitbuster,

    @fasterthanlime ooh, I just used set -a && source .env 😱

    One problem I have with ADHD and ASD as labels is the final "D". Our ways of being are not "Disorders", any more than being gay is a "Disorder". If anything, our societies have a "Disorder", whose symptoms include chronic failure to nurture and leverage the talents and abilities of neurodiverse people for the public good.

    What’s happening in Turkey today is not some exotic oddity. It’s a forewarning of exactly what can (and is) happening in the West.

    Does this timeline seem familiar?

    1. Neoliberals get elected. They fill their coffers while alienating a whole swath of society who they deem too far beneath them to matter.

    2. A religious fundamentalist arises who speaks to those marginalised people, telling them they’ve been wronged (they have) and that he will make it right.

    3. He gets elected.

    4. He stays.

    pitbuster,
    @pitbuster@lile.cl avatar

    @aral
    At least here (the country used as guinea pig for neoliberalism through an US-backed dictatorship) the religious fundamentalists openly side with the neoliberalists, so I guess the transition from 1 to 2 is/was not the same everywhere :(

    pitbuster,
    @pitbuster@lile.cl avatar

    @aral
    yes! I suppose that it also depends on how the neoliberals came to power initially, here the propaganda was that the dictatorship "saved us from communism" (a democratically elected socialist president).
