Last night I was ready to start a new RPG. It’s been quite a while so I was in the perfect mood for it.
And since I watched that Ys video I really wanted to play an entry into the series.
Since I can’t restart 8 on PS5 yet, I decided to go with Memories of Celceta.
I only played the intro back in the day on Vita. Played for about 3 hours last night and I’m really enjoying it. Can’t wait to go home late tonight and play some more.

@OutofPrintArchive I really, really enjoyed Memories of Celceta. More than I thought I would originally, actually.

I've always enjoyed the Ys series, but this one was way up there for me. I just had a lot of fun with it.

@faelim
Yeah, it started of quite slow for me as well, but I’m loving it now as it starts to get going.
Just beat the big fish last night.
Had to retry like 5 times as he kept kicking my butt. But it felt so good taking him down.
Looking forward to playing more tonight.
I just hope I can stay awake as I’ve been having a terrible time sleeping this past week. Not sure why.
Must be stress related.

Played some more last night and got to the river section with the first village and dungeon.

It's really starting to click now.
And yeah, the music is gorgeous!
I wish I could have played longer, but I was beyond exhausted to the point where I needed to actually take a break as I couldn't focus at all.
I'm hoping that having next week off from work will do me some good as I'm just spent at this point.

@OutofPrintArchive played only for a few hours and later confirmed with @pitbuster that it was good-but-not-as-good-as-ys-viii

but

it has the bestest soundtrack. I listen to it at least twice a month begin to end

@morenonatural @pitbuster
The Ys soundtracks are always something special, aren’t they? 😊

pitbuster,
@pitbuster@lile.cl avatar

@OutofPrintArchive @morenonatural definitely, I got into the soundtrack first and then the games 😅

@pitbuster @morenonatural
Haha, that’s amazing!
With me it was like that with Persona.
I fell in love with 4 but only had a couple of tracks on my phone.
Then got all the others and fell it love with, well, everything really. 😄

@OutofPrintArchive I’ve got that on Switch! Hopefully I will play it one day. 😅

@matt
Me too. It’s been on my backlog for soooooo long. And I just bought a copy of Ys Origin, but it would take too long to arrive for me to wait on it. 😅

@OutofPrintArchive I saw you playing that last night and I’m gonna be real it almost convinced me to buy it myself on psn hahaha

@ayysturg 😄
If it goes for a good price, I would definitely jump in.
You can clearly see all the building blocks that would evolve further into Ys 8. Just from a top down perspective more or less.
So far it doesn’t look to reach the same heights as 8, but then again, few games do.

It’s clearly a Vita port, so don’t expect it to look very good from a technical standpoint.

@OutofPrintArchive I own it on vita already and made it like 2 hours in before I started something else but I did like it I own 8 on vita switch and ps5 but haven’t started it yet

How old is the Ys series? I remember that series from way back when.

ayysturg,
@ayysturg@mstdn.games avatar

@Dennis5891 @OutofPrintArchive I believe it was the NEC pc-88 in 1987 I remember having ys3 wanders of ys on snes at one point and I still own my pc disc copy of ys origin for windows 98 it’s been a long ride for sure so far

It’s amazing how the series has evolved over the years, especially for such a tiny company.
My first Ys game was on the Master System. But I didn’t get it when it released. It took a bit longer.

I remember picking up the Japanese Falcom collection on Sega Saturn when I started importing around 1997. Really fell in love with Falcom as a whole and I’ve been a fan ever since.

@OutofPrintArchive @Dennis5891 I didn’t know there was a falcom collection on Saturn can you show a picture of that??? My first year was ys3 wanderers of ys and I didn’t get into it the first one I got into was ys 1/2 on ds

I’ve known about falcom for a while but only recently have I done a deep dive into their catalogue now I’m working through trails

Oh btw. If you’re looking to get into the series, be sure to pick up Ys 8 Lacrimosa of Dana.
That might not only be the best Ys game, but also one of the best RPG ever. 😊
