Finished What Remains of Edith Finch on the Steam Deck over the last couple of nights. A short walking sim/light puzzle game where the protagonist attempts to unravel a mystery about why everyone in her extended family has died.

Quite poignant and eerie, I enjoyed it a lot!

Finally finished BioShock tonight after 17 years and two previous failed attempts!

Finally clicked as I played it more like an immersive sim than a straight FPS, and while it has some flaws (endless pipe mania, basically a corridor shooter and slightly awkward combat), the visual design, plasmids and tonics elevated it into something more than the sum of its parts.

There are not many better moments in gaming than hypnotising a big daddy and pitting it against another one, then when one has prevailed finishing it off and taking all the goodies. Or carefully hacking all turrets and cameras in an earlier area and luring splicers into the Death Zone™️

I managed to save all the Little Sisters too. :ablobcatheart:

I suppose it means BioShock 2 at some point I guess, but I hear it’s not quite as good.

I was in the mood for some arcade gaming yesterday after work, so I started playing some Gun.Smoke, 19XX, GigaWing, Final Fight on Capcom Arcade Stadium.
Then I moved on to Ketsui Deathtiny on PS4, by Cave and M2, which is exclusive to the system.

It's one of the Cave games I'm not actually good at, but I love it nonetheless and the new modes are just brilliant!

The Deathtiny one especially is actually very easy with a tiny hitbox. So much fun!

@OutofPrintArchive I got Ikaruga on GameCube for my birthday so I need to play some more of that. It’s very hard though!

@OutofPrintArchive thank you! I will keep a look out. I also have GTA IV, LittleBigPlanet, Batman: Arkham City and Metal Gear Solid 4, but I purposefully ordered those online.

Bit of an odd one, but can any other users confirm the following behaviour?

If you pin a tab in a regular personal tab group, the tab will shrink to a small square, but if you pin a tab in a named tab group it’ll stay the same size as the others.

If this is expected behaviour, why?

I’ve tried with a Personal and a Work window, and it happens across both.

@matt@mstdn.games avatar

@DJDarren I can confirm this happens for me too. 2020 MacBook Pro M1 on Sonoma 14.4.1

I might have done something… 👀

I have next week off from work and had been looking at a bunch of games but didn’t want to pull the trigger.
They had a bunch of Visual Novels for super cheap.
One example is Robotics Notes which is sold out at most places.
I saw one listing for €80!

Got it brand new for €18 instead. 😊

@OutofPrintArchive that’s pretty good! I got the double pack for £20 from eBay.

Album of the Day 250: Hellfire by black midi

https://bmblackmidi.bandcamp.com/album/hellfire

2022 experimental rock album from London, England. A crazy experience that takes from prog rock, show tunes, jazz fusion, and more. A hellish nightmare concept album, at times sung, at other times ranted in a blend of carnival barker and auctioneer; often hectic, occasionally soft, frequently discordant.

My picks: "Eat Men Eat," "Welcome to Hell," "Dangerous Liasons"

@LadyMarth01 thanks for the rec! If you like stuff like this you’ll probably like post-2010 revival Swans. Also Daughters.

matt,
@matt@mstdn.games avatar

@LadyMarth01 ugh, didn’t know that.

matt,
@matt@mstdn.games avatar

@LadyMarth01 I have trouble separating art from the artist. It’s why I no longer listen to Marilyn Manson or Lostprophets (not that I listened to the latter a lot, but it’s a good example). However, Wagner was a massive prick, even for his time. I think the passage of time helps with that, especially if they weren’t around during my own lifetime.

It’s a tricky one.

Some of the responses I’m getting to this are fascinating, because they don’t appear to have noticed that it says “via Ivory for iOS” under my post.

At most, Apple massively disappoint me with how they act. But honestly, I’d rather use their future-landfill than that of any other company. https://mendeddrum.org/@DJDarren/112354021050081516

@DJDarren it’s a weird tech tribalism going on in this day and age where one black rectangle is much the same as any other.

— “Of course they do this because Apple are shit and overpriced and their products are shit!”

— “Of course you’d say this because you’re an Apple hating Android fanboy”

It’s rather disappointing that they can’t put that aside and discuss the point you were making.

Last night I was ready to start a new RPG. It’s been quite a while so I was in the perfect mood for it.
And since I watched that Ys video I really wanted to play an entry into the series.
Since I can’t restart 8 on PS5 yet, I decided to go with Memories of Celceta.
I only played the intro back in the day on Vita. Played for about 3 hours last night and I’m really enjoying it. Can’t wait to go home late tonight and play some more.

Bounced off it hard during the 360 era but I’m rinsing through Alan Wake Remastered this weekend! Completed one episode last night and two more today. After some frustrating encounters early on when I didn’t understand the mechanics very well, I’ve been gripped since then!

Saw there's a new Pearl Jam album the other day, so figured I'd give it a crack.

Stopped it after about five songs because I realised I wasn't actually listening to it.

matt,
@matt@mstdn.games avatar

@DJDarren I’ve found this a bigger issue generally. I put on music while I’m working and before I know it the album is finished and I can’t remember anything about it.

So I moved my record and CD player upstairs and now when I put physical music on it tricks my brain into thinking this is the thing I should be focusing on. I wonder if streaming has just relegated music to background fodder.
